Even early on in their mutual careers, way back during the hey day of the Silver Age, Hal had to resort to context and even plot device in order to beat Sinestro. Hell, it was often said that Sinestro's ring was more powerful than Hal's own, but Hal would think outside of the box such as setting counter-vibrational clocks to interfere with their rings or using the environment to beat Sinestro instead of straight up overpowering him...namely because for decades, he couldn't. Yellow impurity and all.
Regardless, for about a couple of years short of a decade, Sinestro and Hal are shown as practically equals through and through with Sinestro exhibiting greater skill and finesse over Hal. Johns has been portraying Sinestro as typically a slight notch above Hal ever since he brought the two of them back.
Be that as it may, in direct confrontations, when was the last time Hal clearly overpowered or out shined Sinestro?
I can't see the last scans (404 Not Found showing up on my screen), but that first scan more or less proves my point.
Hal hasn't dominated Sinestro or showed anything clearly so far beyond him outside of that Krona Killer shot in the past few decades. The way they're both portrayed currently and consistently, I highly doubt we'll see Hal straight up beat down Sinestro anytime soon.
Hal probably tops out with Krona buster, and he has some very nice feats from when Kyle was main GL.
But head to head, Sinestro usually has a very slight advantage, and Hal usually needs Kyle to support him at least once. Beating the Weaponer is by far Sinestro's best feat to date, considering he was schooling Kyle, Ganthet, John Stewart, and three or four other GL's..
Yeah, he's beaten him in the past, a past that has since been rendered muddled and somewhat hazy in terms of what counts as canon and what doesn't since COIE.
Under the current regime, aka Geoff Johns, the gap between Sinestro and Hal isn't that huge if it even exists at all.
I agree. I actually think Sinestro is being played up as being the #1 Lantern NOW, but everyone keeps on forgetting Hal's past feats. Hal for most of his career has been one of the most powerful top tiers. Right there with Thor, Supes, and Surfer, IMO. Especially PC, which he would take the cake.
