you guys are all wrong superman can fly and run beyond the speed of light.superman was able to fly to other solar systems,galaxies,and even other universes at relative ease.if you dont belive me look on wikipedia on powers and abilities of superman in the silver age of superman.i think superman is way faster than the flash.but the flash is pretty good though.superman is the best.

the flash beat superman in a footrace in adventures of superman #463 sometime in the mid-nineties.this was while the flash could only run in the range of mach 4-5,and was powered down.the flash can travel through time on a regular basis at full power because of his speed.when you saw superman do it it was an abberation,like in the first movie with christopher reeve when he reverses the earths rotation therby reversing time,which was silly even for me as a comic book fan willing to suspend my disbelief.supermans top flying speed has been shown to be at about the speed of light at his most powerful.the flash has been shown to be able to exceed that at his most powerful.the flash is so fast that he can pass his molecules through solid matter.i have never seen superman do that.

The Flash is faster than superman although only by a little. Superman has flown to the sun in about 2 seconds which is very fast. Superman can fly faster than the speed of light however, The Flash can run even faster than that. If Flash were to run as fast as he could and Superman were to fly directly beside the sun, Superman would be faster. If They both raced on the ground at night, The Flash would easily beat Superman in a race by a long shot. You guys are stupid to argue about why there are other heroes. There needs to be more than a single hero, not just one that would be eventually killed by some jerk with kryptonite. Superman has a weakness to kryptonite and he can be harmed by magic. Therefore he does, in fact, have to use his brain in some situations. Superman would dominate the Flash in a fight unless, of course, The Flash used kryptonite against Superman.
