If your friend just "put Tool on" for you, you didn't experience them to the degree you need to, in order to appreciate them.

Yeah I showed Tool to my buddy but he didnt like them. I dont blame him. We were preoccupied and there was no way he was really paying a lot of attention to the music, especially the lyrics. Honestly I didnt like them myself until i started to read the lyrics and focus on them. They really write some awesome, deep lyrics and that is what made me start to like the band.

Lyrics are Maynard's work, not the band's. Nor is it what makes them great.

You should be saying "especially" the music. Because that's what matters.

-AC

I know the lyrics arent what makes them great. But the lyrics are what got me into the band. their music is equally good, but I would be lying if I said that I appreciated them equally at first.

No, you're becoming quite baffled. The music isn't equally good. Lyrics are secondary in Tool, regardless of how excellent they are.

The reason Tool are as great as they are is the music and Maynard's vocals. Words and what he is saying don't ever mean as much.

He's quite possibly the best lyricist ever, but it's the music first.

-AC

You may be right, but that doesnt change the fact that the lyrics are what drew me to Tool. Not to say I dont appreciate the music.

I understand what drew you to Tool, but to say the music is equal to the lyrics is wrong.

To quote Maynard: "When you deal with subject matter like we do, people tend to go straight to the lyrics and that puts more of a focus on me and I'm just one fourth of this project."

Definitely. I've heard that album probably hundreds of times and it still offers something new now and again.

I get the feeling, to be sort of off topic, that when the new album comes out, alot of people on here are going to blatantly say it's shit just because it's Tool and they want to "prove" they're not all that good.

Can sense it.

They are making a new album? When will it be released? (by the way what other albums do they have?)

*Roger Nilson neckal rubbage* Ahhh dunnow, dunnow. Whenever they finish it.

Opiate EP, Undertow and Aenima.

Thanks. And what is everyones Favorite?

For me, Aenima and Lateralus are similar- I tend to flit between them as to which I like the best.

Undertow follows; Opiate isn't strictly an album, but still great.

In a way it's a pity you heard Lateralus first, because it was a great band to follow through their evolutionary steps.

Probably only beaten by Radiohead.

Oh good that you say that....cause I wanted to get into Radiohead more.....what order would be the best for them (sorry for Off-topic)

And what do you mean with Opiate is not an album?

It's an EP, like a long playing single. Not quite an album, more like a few songs over a single.

Radiohead, just do it in chronological order.

It's an EP.

With any band such as Tool and Radiohead, you should just listen from first album or release onward. You've only JUST got Lateralus so my advice would be to give it a miss until you've heard the rest.

My fav Tool album is Lateralus, to answer your question.

-AC

My favorite album is probably Lateralus....song, probably The Grudge. I dunno though, it changes depending on my mood.

(I'm weird like that)

I respect Tool, but I can't really say that I like them.

My personal favorite is Ænima (take that you Windows-using bitches! tongue), but Lateralus is really their best. As for songs, my current favorites are Ænima, Lateralus, and 46 & 2.
