To all, you named some touching scenes it is true, but nothing on this planet is a sad as when the boy about to be a man in "old yeller" has to go out and shoot the dog he loves--doesn't matter that the dog has rabies or anything else--I felt and still feel at my advanced years totally gutted by this scene--I cried for six hours (this according to my parents) and I tear up now even remembering.

Close second for me anyway, When Gandalf fell in the mines. I couldn't even breathe on that one and I knew he wasn't dead.

Now... i'm not into chick flicks but I really enjoyed The Notebook. Ive seen it a few times and everything leading up to the end and then when both the lovers die in the bed holding hands as old people. I cry ever damn time.

I'd have to say John Coffey in The Green Mile. It wasn't so bad the first time I watched it, but we studied that movie really hardcore in Grade 12 English so I learned all the symbolism and character development so it was a much more powerful scene the second time. I didn't cry, but I heard a lot of sniffing behind me.

i think the saddest death i've watched are If only and city of angels.. i hate sad ending movie coz it make me think, what if....

denzel....man on fire

Star Wars, when Yoda dies.

That kid at the end of Alpha Dog.

American Beauty, Donnie Darko and although it isn't technically a death, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Katsumoto in The Last Samurai

Even through I hate Leo.I still cryed at the end of "Blood Diamond" not sure why I just did. Also at the end of "Swing Kids" even through no one dead in that movie.jm

Oh yeah, shit. Ignore the prior comment, it was late at night. Though it's still no excuse.

The Deer Hunter, Saddest death : when Nicky (Christopher Walken) shoots himself in the head. Utterly depressing.

Million Dollar Baby - The death of Maggie. I cried my eyes out at that scene, so heartbreaking.
Rocky III - Mickey's death. He was such a great character, to see him die was so sad.
Gladiator - Maximus. Didn't want him to die, but at least he died honourably.
Troy - Hector. My favourite character in the whole film. It should have been Paris who died!
American History X - Danny's death was sad. I thought Edward Norton's acting in that scene was amazing.

Platoon - Elias's death.
