I swear people believe that will happen. Drugs legalised and everyone becomes a user, although it would be up to them. Perhaps people shouldn't go to jail for using a substance on themselves...maybe...

Yes. It seems the only real argument against legalising all drugs (and taxing them and getting rid of drug-related crimes in the process) is the delusion that we’d ALL become drug-addicts over-night.

You CANNOT make something “go away” by making it illegal. Be it drugs, sex or abortion. It just seeps down into the underworld and becomes the sources of crime.

Think of Prohibition in the states in the 20’s (or 30’s)? Did alcohol go away? Did people stop drinking alcohol?
When Prohibition was lifted, did everyone become alcoholics?
And what crime-group gained immense power because of Prohibition?

Smoking is legal. Is everyone smoking?
What is the reason they don't?

The only drug I can think of I might consider accepting an argument against its legalization is tobacco. And even then it's weak. Oh...and legal in the first place.

75% of all crimes (in UK) happen are drug related drugs..i.e. people steeling to get money to buy drugs, or a drug deal gone bad. More people die every year from alcohol and tobaco then they do from illegal A and B class drugs

I think that legalization of drugs would wipe the underground drug business compitely and drug related crimes would go down! Why would you go to the dodgy drug dealer on the corner to buy drugs when you can get them from your local Chemist? They can penalise it, likethey do cigarets here in the UK (£5 for a pack of sigs in Brighton)

There ARE gonna be some consiquences due to this in a short term, but in a long term, i think it could work.

The so-called war on drugs has been going...what about 90 years no..a bit over..and nothing has really been improved...

I don't see a difference between drugs and alcohol. They both intoxicate you, they both are addicting, they both kill brain cells, and if take too much of either you're dead. So why is one legal and the other not?

Plus its practically impossible to overdose on marijuana so its actually safer than alcohol.
