As for the name calling, I got the thumbs_up from Paola. So now that I got OFFICIAL CLOUT on my side, you better get used to either being blind or stupid. So there...tongue

The whole point is that peejayd said Scott had no "reservations" for Betsy. This was a new, strange way of using the word "reservations" that I (nor apparently the people at www.websters-online-dictionary.org) had never heard of. I had correctly guessed it meant having to "hots" for someone as peejayed was nice enough to confirm for me. So... Scott had the "hots" for Betsy. He never acted on any of his impulses. Good for him. He did have them though. I would also say he had "reservations" for Emma, since he was mentally sticking it to her. Usually that takes at least some attraction. Maybe you can explain that to peejayed, since he seems to value your opinions and considers them facts.

* the fact that Scott turned down Betsy, means he got no reservations for her...

I was using your quotes to prove a point to peejayd. He was accusing me of justifying Jean's actions, something I wasn't doing but you were. I was letting him know if he had a problem with someone justifying Jean's actions to take it up with you. I'm not suprised you're confused though. Cyclops fans get confused pretty easy...

* oh, i'm sorry... you're not justifying Jean's actions... you're just putting her and all other women on a pedestal and keep blaming Scott for it...

Yeah, sorry about that Cyke. The "blindly" part of that was aimed at peejayd. You have always intelligently and calmly posed your facts and opinions to me, even when I was barking at you. I have nothing but respect for you. On the other hand... isn't every fan of Cyclops either a little blind or stupid?...

* very judgmental... i thought you are the kind of person whose "problem is what has been done, not who did it"... you sure are a very hypocritical person...

Seriously though, I'd be careful if I were you. I don't want to say who, but someone patrols this thread who looks down on people who bag on other people's sigs. Thrust me, I know. They might see that and threaten to "put the smackdown on you" or something...

* i should've find that funny, but i didn't... ya know, kiddo, you got serious issues... you can't even make a stand for yourself, i pity you... you claim you are a person whose "problem is what has been done, not who did it", yet for the last few posts, you always seem to talk about my sig instead of the topic at hand... ๐Ÿ˜˜

Can we make this thread about Cyke again?

Yeah...

so how does everyone think the curent astonishing x-men arc will affect cyclops in the long run?

for anyone who hasnt been reading it...

In Astonishing X-Men #14, during an impromptu telepathic "therapy session", Emma Frost presented Cyclops with the possibility that his lack of control over his optic blasts actually stems not from physical brain damage but from a sort of mental block that the young Scott imposed upon himself after the combined traumas of the loss of his parents, separation from his brother, and shocking manifestation of his powers; this is seen as a coping mechanism, giving Scott something to focus on and try to maintain some sort of control over at a time when events completely out of his control had effectively shattered the life he had led up to that point.

Surprisingly, Scott seems to admit that this theory is the truth of the matter, further admitting that he had even blocked making this decision out of his memory, to preserve the fallacy in his own mind and prevent others from discovering his "secret". The issue ends with Scott apparently in a catatonic state, with his eyes uncovered and displaying their natural shade of brown, with no evidence of his powers manifesting.

We can't be sure until the arc ends, and we don't know if what we saw in Astonishing #14 is really true, but i doubt that Marvel will let Emma be a villain again, since she's one of the most popular X-men now, and i don't think they will let Cyclops without his visor, at least not for sometime, since with it, he's one of Marvel's most iconic characters, but without it, he's just a guy who looks like Gambit.

And there's a huge possiblity that this all is just happening in Emma's head, which would explain why that student is alive, among other things.

lol... thats a possibility... i'll admit at the end of #12 i briefly had that same thought...

* i got this excerpt from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emma_Frost

In Astonishing X-Men #13 (February, 2006), it was revealed that Emma's survival of the destruction of Genosha in New X-Men #115 was due to Cassandra Nova creating Emma's secondary mutation as part of a scheme to infiltrate the X-Men as a sleeper agent (Nova having erased the memory of their encounter and only restoring it recently). Perfection noted that Emma's feelings for Summers were genuine, however. Related, in "Astonishing X-Men" #13, Cassandra noted that Emma is a "predator," that Emma will "do what's best for" Emma, which will mean, "in the long run...planting yourself where you can be of use to me, and, in the short run, surviving [the attack on Genosha]." In Astonishing X-Men #14, Emma began using her telepathy on Cyclops to appear as Phoenix, trying to reveal the lack of control he had over his optic blasts. It was revealed that shortly after he fell out of a plane with his younger brother Havok, Scott placed a deep mental block in his mind which prevented the controlled use of his powers. Encouraged by Emma, Scott revisits that moment in his life and reverses the decision. On the final page, Scott is shown without his ruby glasses on, revealing his newfound control of his abilities, apparently comatose. In Astonishing X-Men #15, Emma and the new Hellfire club assalt the X-Mansion, incapacitating every X-Man. Near the end of the issue, the new Hellfire club tell each other this is only the beginning. None of them see that Kitty Pryde was able to escape the attack, and reflects that Emma made her move like she always knew she would.

* the readers may have different interpretations regarding Cyke's condition... in this excerpt, it was interpreted that Cyke has control of his power but was in a coma...

* however, IMO yes, i also admit that eventhough i really want to see Cyke somehow can control his power, the result would be the ruby-quartz visor is useless... and the visor reflects as one of the most recognizable icons in Marvel...

* well, let's see what happens... Wolverine lost his adamantium back then and regained it, the Scott-Jean marriage collapsed, Professor Xavier was kicked out from his own-founded team... well, i surely hope the suspense never stops... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Its amazing to me that the author of the cyclops page takes a different view of the event to the emma frost author...

i guess we just have to wait till the next issue or two...

Alright, don't read this unless you've read AXM #13-16... spoilers n such...

the cover to AXM #19 shows a visor-less cyclops with the x-men, now, i don't know how people are going to react to this new cyclops...

me? i'm not sure yet... the visor was the physical representation of his fundamental need for control... does the fact that he wont need to control his powers take away from the character himself?

Are we going to see an all-singing, all-dancing carefree scott?

i'll also put this in the axm thread...

I don't think they are really going to radically change his attitude .. after all, he has grown into that personality since he was a teenage boy.

But I too cringe at the thought of a visor/glasses-less Scott. It just doesn't .. ring right. Let's hope that gets retconned back out for some reason or another, if possibly utilizing a plot device that makes sense for once ๐Ÿ˜„

I don't know about a retcon...but couldn't he start wearing red shades...because they're fashionable?

come on, he spent the majority of his life seeing everything in red tones, now that he doesn't need (or gave up on the shades) he would probably want to see some colours instead of wearing the red glasses for fashion...
i just hope the colours do not translate into a colorful personality ermm
the most recognizable aspect of Scott is his personality, i wouldn't it to change too drastically...

It was only a suggestion...keeping the shades will make him distinguishable...better then a retcon...

if he has total control i cant see him ever wearing the shades again... all those colours... it'd be like a blind man gaining sight...

How about a red glow/aura around his eyes when he goes into battle then?

i have faith in john cassaday... no, wait... no i don't...

how about a halo of energy that surrounds his head and from which his blasts can manifest in an omnidirectional pattern , if they are upgrading him they may as well upgrade his powers.
