Astonishing has fallen so far out of the continuity loop, that events in civil i'm pretty sure are post Whedon's run.
so I'm fairly certain by the end of Whedon's awesome run, cyclops will be wearing his visor again... but i ****ing love him without it at the moment, change is ****ing awesome... and its always been one of the things we've all wanted to see over the decades... cyclops with no visor blasting villains... hopefully we'll get to see this.
In Civil war currently, its been discovered that Cyclops only ever uses a fraction of his full power... no we get an even super pumped cyclops than before... mind you, it'll just be kept as a backup power against a super new boss guy for later story arc's like when Cyke attacked Onslaught.

* yes, thanks! i've read a spoiler update on wikipedia... Cyke wears no visor, and shoots Perfection (HFC's White Queen) with a pistol...
* it was very unclear though, Cyke recovered from coma and shoots Perfection with pistol, if he had full control over his mutant power, it would be more convenient to unleash an optic blast rather than using a pistol...
* i hope that Cyke not powerless...
* plus, the mysterious Perfection turned out to be HFC's White Queen? then who the heck is the Emma Frost who is/was in relationship with Cyke? it's very ambiguous and interesting at the same time... ๐
Spoiler:
Apparently Emma was right: a fully recovered Cyclops rose in the issue 17 from his catatonic state to shoot Perfection in the back with a pistol. However it has not been established in the comic yet whether Cyclops has full control of his power or has been rendered completely powerless. In a interview with Joss Whedon in the Wizard 182, when asked if Cyclops didn't have his powers any more after Emma psychically manipulated him, Wheddon replied that "No, he doesn't have his powers. Well, he had a choice to either be completely out of control or bury them. He can't use them. That's pretty much it. But the thing that would be fun is that, with no powers, he's going to be the best that he's ever been. That's what the arc is about. [Cyclops has] been the team leader and the team washout in terms of popularity. He was defined by Jean so much, and I just think that this guy is so interesting in his struggle against mediocrity. Then, when it's all laid on the line, when you find out the thing that's been holding him back from being just a complete bad ass has been himself all his life, that he's been lying to everyone, including himself, about who he is-that should be freeing. The Scott we're going to see is going to be a little bit different. This guy is either completely out of control or in control of something we're not used to. I wanted him to be an unabashed tough guy. He is shooting people and turning very much into a leader. Not everyone is going to like it."Although it is unclear if Cyclops was aware that he was shooting Perfection, or whether his intention was indeed to shoot Emma, a case can be made that he believes it to be Emma since, while shooting Perfection, he replies to Emma's earlier comment to him in an earlier issue about him not having claws (i.e., in the context of him being jealous of Wolverine).

I'll admit to having a man-crush on Scott.
Even i don't have one of those... ๐
There's a poll over at newsarama about who would win in a fight between a powerless storm and a powerless cyclops. As a cyclops fan, I'm glad that he's winning the poll so far, although not by much. What bothers me, though, is that many of the people who say cyclops would lose seem to think that he has no chance because storm "fights dirty". Am I alone in thinking that if these two were actually fighting and cyclops had no real reason to hold back that he could take her down pretty easily?

How about a red glow/aura around his eyes when he goes into battle then?
Now I remember where I got this idea from...

* what's up on Cyke? man, i can't picture him without powers... the visor, the optic blasts, they're very much associated with him... personally, Scott can be a real bad-ass eventhough he has his powers... ๐
true, but alot of people don't give him the credit outside of his powers that he deserves, and i really think whedon is going to show that cyke is still a total badass with no powers, so that when he does get his powers back, there'll be no doubt as to how good he really is...
