Matrix at the Oscars

Seven films will compete for Best Visual Effects at the 2004 Oscars. They are Universal's The Hulk, New Line's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, 20th Century Fox's Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and X2: X-Men United, Universal's Peter Pan, Walt Disney Pictures' Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Warner Bros.' Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

This is absolutely ridiculous! How could they have put any of these movies ahead of either matrix sequels. The only one that had better visual effects was ROTK.

Well, Reloaded wasn't entered cause it would compete against Revolutions, but IDK why Revolutions isn't on the list.

T3's effects were OK

They weren't better than Reloaded or Rev's effects!

There wasn't anything that great about the matrix effects, they were really obvious and noticable. They looked nice, but you could tell it was animation, that was probably the problem.

um, then how did the hulk get up there backfire?

Well, maybe because the hulk only uses that kind of animation when he actually is in hulk form, which isn't all that often, there is other animation and special effects in that movie that looks pretty cool, where as the matrix animation is pretty much constant.

But I agree, as much as I hate the Matrix I think it should have gotten at least a nomination for it's effects, they were on par with several of the other nominees, and way better then the hulk.

hulk was really badly animated
but y there is not revolutions ??????
man....its graphcis were a thousand times better than the movies listed above
the only competing movie is RotK

thats rubbish! 😒

The Oscars have never been fair when it comes to nominations...I mean, they probably won't nominate any of the actors of the LOTR! 🙄

dont tell me that the T3 fx were better than the sentinels swarm... i liked T3 but the effects are as fake or as real as those movies mentioned and doesn't even touch the tip of revo's sfx... i totally agree with osiris, the only rival would be rotk... for the record... hulk sucked a$$!!!

I personally think they should have submitted Reloaded to the Oscar comittee. The zion scene did not seem like anything special in Revolutions. But to put the hulk befor any matrix movies is ridiculous. the hulk blew. ROTK will win anyway though. I was in awe the entire movie.

is the matrix 3 in any of the oscar nominations?

dang you got these dates down

hmmm..rev isnt there...i think RotK gonna win dat

Pff!
Hulk got so many bad reviews here, I haven’t even bothered seeing it yet. But maybe it does really have cool special effects.
RotK is amazing! But I can see when they’re using special effects as much as when I watch Matrix. Master and Commander – got bad reviews from my favourite critic, so I’ll see it on DVD. X-men 2 is cool, sure. PotC – well… But T3 was crap. Again, the effects weren’t too bad, but not better than Reloaded/Revolutions.

Oh, well. Gladiator won in 2001 (for best 2000 picture), Beautiful Mind in 2002 (should’ve been FotR!) and Chicago this year (2003). So the chances that ANY fantasy-movie even gets nominated for best picture are slim indeed.

The first Matrix film won for Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Film Editing. We’ll have to wait until the end of january to see if the new ones even get nominated in those categories. If not – I’ll officially break up with the Oscars 😄

i am surely with u omega........i know that all the effects were not as groundbreaking as the concept of bullet-time but all the visuals were mindblowing.........
who can forget the zion scene, the clone fight ,the chase and the burly brawl...........certainly not me.......
i certainly feel the winner should be m2 or m3 this year as far as visual fx r concerned.........
sure u can tell what is real and what is not bcoz u know what u r seeing cant happen but keep an open mind to appreciate the excellent composition in the zion fight.........

i vote for matrix

I already sent a petition to have it at least nominated.....but who knows whether they'll take that petition into consideration..... 🙁

Return of the King WILL win for Special FX this year. They are THE best special effects I have ever seen, period. I am a hardcore Matrix fan but a Tolkienite at heart, but even this does not bias my opinions on the special effects. Even TTT was better in Special FX than Reloaded OR Revolutions were. One word - Gollum. For ROTK: 2 words: Witch-King (YES, he was computer generated 😉).
