Define needed in this case. This chapter benefits the audience by giving the details concerning an event from the past. Like, say, when we found out the details of the Kyuubi attack on Konoha. Compared to that, at least this was short. That and this gives Sasuke a springboard to develop more as a character. And makes Itachi more sympathetic.

1. We already know what happned in the past. It has been discussed many times
2. The added detail didnt change anything e.g Itachi's friend didnt turn out to be tobi
3. The only plot progression was the cancelling of edo
4. **** sasuke
1. The past can be elaborated upon. Say, with Kakashi. He had a friend named Obito and he got the Sharingan. But, now that we've seen it fleshed out, we come to a greater understanding of the story and the character.
2. A flashback can't really change anything. It can only inform. It did that well.
3. But that excludes the closure with regards to the relationship between Itachi and Sasuke. Believe it or not, a story=/= the plot.
4. Eh, some like Sasuke. That is merely a subjective view. I dun like, say, Hinata but I didn't care that I had to read her backstory.
Chapter, as someone pointed out, was yaoi-ish.
It was incest yaoi, to be exact. Gay incest yaoi. 😐
Anyway, chapter did not do much besides reveal that Madara was affected by the edo tensei release. Oh, and...contradicting the plot point where Itachi threatened Danzo to not harm his little brother: makes no sense for Itachi to do that IF Danzo was the one that offered it to Itachi to begin with (enter the apologists that claim that Danzo was going to double cross Itachi...but on what grounds?)

To be fair to Itachi, would YOU trust Danzo to keep his word without feeling the urge threatening him?

Yeah...since...Danzo was the one proposing the way to preserve Sasuke's innocence and the Third knew of everything as well and The Third is the most trustworthy character in the series unless you have daughters between 12 and 18.
😐

I dunno why you would trust Danzo at all lol. And as for the 3rd, he did go out of his way to make sure Hirzuen would protect Sasuke. The threat was extra insurance.

Danzo isn't noble. He's just stupid. Shisui's eye was the perfect solution to the problem. There's no reason to have used it.Like this one?

Itachi faces a decision that most would not be able to come to terms with....And Danzo feels like he has a small dick.
Yup. Awesome.
You still don't want to accept Danzo is the best villain of the series? The only one to come close so far is Oro, and he's also a manipulative f__k.
Neither has Tobi.
And frankly, after looking at the storyline since the war started, wow, what the **** was Tobi thinking when he decided to challenge the world to a fight?
It's occurred to me that the edo tensei thing was all Kabuto, which as we all know ended up being an unknown factor in Tobi's plans. That means that initially, Tobi's A-Game consisted of the Bijuu, Bijuu that Naruto and Bee have been handling quite nicely... and the army of white zetsu.
That's it.
Like, wow. Tobi has no idea how lucky he is Kabuto came around, otherwise he would have been truly ****ed. Madara and the other Edo Tensei's ninja were literally carrying this whole war.

7 Bijuu prove you wrong lol.
Tobi's plan was to lure Naruto out the way he did. That worked. Kurama and Naruto becoming buddy buds is a variable one can't exactly plan for.
That and to be fair, it's really hard to tell what Tobi even wants. He's using Sasuke for something is the only thing I know for certain.
Question: Tobi apparently has the Pot. Why not use that to capture Naruto? mmm
Originally posted by TheAuraAngelThe 7 Bijuu would be fighting a Sage mode Naruto+Hachibi+Kakashi and Gai+ the other Kages+ a massive army of pissed off ninja if it wasn't for Kabuto. The 7 bijuu are about to get handled by a force that's a fraction of that size.
[B]7 Bijuu prove you wrong lol.
The point is that we all know that Tobi is going to end up getting his ass kicked, and that's WITH Kabuto's team acting as major disruption. How in the hell did he figure that his plan was going to work without Kabuto's edo tensei'd army?

Wut? Why would Naruto be using Sage Mode? The plan hinges on him using the KCM. And the Kages were clearly not going to be participating in the fight. Too far away and they were not going to use the ftl tech. They'd be backup at best.
You mean without Madara acting as a major disruption. The Edo Tensei guys honestly didn't do much(the Zetsu were more effective). It's not that hard to think of how Tobi would be able to work around Kabuto.
The zetsu have done a better job of being distractions than the edo tendei'd army? The same zetsu that have repeatedly been shown to be fodder that can get handled by every no name character in the series? lol wut?
I don't know what you've been reading this whole time. It ain't what the rest of us are reading, though. Many of the revived ninja have been nothing more than nuisances, but most of them have been the largest source of drama for the Village armies thus far. The white zetsu have barely been even a foot-note.
Maybe Tobi "could have" worked a way around Kabuto's help, but the point is that he didn't. His plan was, literally, "distract everyone with my army of zetsu while I used my bijuu to capture Naruto". That's it. I know he's your favorite villain in the series and all, but that's a really shitty plan.
