The Official Naruto series Thread

One Piece is pretty entertaining and has being built into a huge franchise, I actually think that one of Naruto's redeeming features its not trying to expand it's universe as much, simply because the storytelling gets hard to handle and Kishimoto is not comfortable with such stakes (imo).

OP is clearly playing on being epic and cashing into the Dragonball feeling that was left empty after the DB series ended. By the fact that it managed to catch the wave and it has a much bigger established fanbase over the years, OP is pretty understandably a great selling manga with all the advantages Naruto has and then some.

Yeah it really does come down to One Piece being the spiritual successor to Dragon Ball but with a much much much better setup for extended longevity. Case in point Naruto is almost over while One Piece still has a ton of things to cover. And Oda, for better or worse, is in no hurry.

And both Naruto and OP have already passed DB in length.

Dragonball was never meant to be all that long, while OP obviously wanted to play a long term plan. That being, said, when comparing these manga to Dragonball you have to take a very different manga culture than what it was back in the day with Toriyama.

I think Naruto just sells better in the States, or at least is way more recognizable. That's why I've always been shocked to hear that One Piece dominates it.

Well that is easy to understand for a few reasons.

First and foremost, while the Naruto dub is really just so so, it was way better handled than 4Kids One Piece, which was so notoriously bad it killed the Funimation's dub chances of even remote success until...well now since it will be on Toonami soon.

Secondly Naruto simply has a bit more appeal with the anime fanbase in the States I'd think. One Piece embraces the silliness of the genre but because American's were mostly influenced by the much more serious DBZ, Gundam, and so on the anime that sells itself as being the most serious will probably do better. Bleach(a guy with a big ass sword killing shit) and Naruto(a ninja with a demon inside him) simply take themselves more seriously than One Piece(a kid ate an apple and can now stretch) and that seems to appeal to this country's mindset.

Lastly getting into One Piece now just seems ****ing daunting at this point with over 700 chapters lol.

But One Piece has this so arguments against it are invalid.

YouTube video

It's so impossible to hate this. haermm

also, ninjas > pirates.

this is canon.

4Kids is useless, though at least they used awesome VA's like Dan Brown.

The guy who wrote the Da Vinci Code?

F***. Dan Green. facepalm2

all people with colors as names look the same to you?

that's pretty racist, bro. 😬

That's right. uhuh

But the two are similar. Both are able to make bad writing appear way better than it is. Green through his sheer talent as a voice actor. Brown...well I don't exactly know how Brown does it. Not letting the audience catch their freaking breath and keeping his chapters short would be my guess.

heh found some more naruto pics

Has OP always been this huge? I mean when Naruto Shippuden first came out, IIRC, (which I'm probably not) that was the highest selling manga.

I think they're both pretty good but I just had no idea OP is lapping Naruto 2 or 3 times over. Pretty amazing.

Only reason I watched the 4Kids dub of Yu-Gi-Oh! was due to the awesomeness of the VAs that were used.

oh snap

Spoiler:
obito get's rin'd by kakashi, but it might be something the former wanted to make a point cause he doesn't seem too concerned about his life. possibly an explanation of why rin died hopefully fallows

chapter's out

So we finally get an explanation for Rin really quickly and Kishimoto had to establish that Obito isn't really doing this because of Rin but because of how ****ed up in the head he is at this point. But to his credit

Spoiler:
he does make an effective Hollow cosplayer
. Granted not sure if it needed to explain that since Obito has basically deemed everyone replaceable and that should give you an idea of how batshit he is but there ya go.

And man does Kishi enjoy teasing his freaking shippers.

Spoiler:
Also is it me or does the one most interested in killing Naruto seem like the Juubi itself? And what was up with the picture of all those Jinchuriki behind Naruto? And how did he get Shukaku's chakra?

Nice chapter.

Spoiler:
You have a tailed beast you don't have a good way to control at the moment, what do you do with it? Stick it in an enemy and then force them to take it back home so it'll erupt
Spoiler:
Everyone wants to drop a giant monster on Konoha man. That's just cold.

Also this explains a certain action of Kishi's from last chapter. Neat.
