I just realized something... Kisame seems like he should be more deserving of the title Demon of the Mist. Not Zabuza or Suigetsu. Kisame seems to be a lot more bloodthirsty.

I think the fact that the ninja were students and Zabuza was so young was a big part of his title. It also depends on how he did it- his speciality is making a mist then slitting people's throats within it, that must've been horrifying.

And, oddly enough, Kisame's famous for taking tough targets alive.

It was his nickname ever since the slaughter. I thinks it's about his evil more than his power (though he *was* a pretty darn powerful ninja, he almost got Kakashi, one of the best jonin in Konoha, and he was apparently one of the very best at assassination).

Kisame's is the "Monster of Hidden Mist," plus he has the 'tailless beast'. I guess to mist Monster > Demon. And/or you're monster or demon, not both because it'd just be redundant.

Multiple nicknames are probably the best way to tell power. If you have a bunch, it means you're so awesome even people who know your nickname still want to give you another. See also: The Sannin, Jiraiya and Tsunade had two beyond just 'Sannin' (though in each case one isn't positive). Hiruzen had two. Kakashi has two.

Kakashi's father had one nickname, and yet, according to Minato, he was much greater than the Sannin.
