I really liked the pre-Soul Society stuff too. There was more variety in what happened then.
True. Though Ichigo mostly dealt with Hollows only, there were particular fights that were significant, like the one with Uryu, and the one against GF.
SS arc was where we got Captains, awesome fights, and in-depth revelations about Zanpakuto, including Bankais. That is the peak of Bleach IMO.

I wish Onoki would start flying around and blowing shit up DBZ style. He apparently is strong enough to blow up the giant turtle(easily one of, if not the most destructive feat in the manga)I hate Kabuto.
Akatsuchi could have been exaggerating, though it's probably quite a powerful tech. Also, if he can in fact destroy the Island Turtle with that tech, he could solo Naruto-verse by himself. 😐
Just fly around, and blow up one village or hideout each day.
The only other ninjas who can fly are Deidara on his Clay Bird/Dragon, Gaara, Konan, Sasuke on his Hawk, and perhaps Deva Path.
Weirdly enough, all of those ninja could also destroy a village with a tech, or at least a significant portion of a village.

He needs his glasses to see the release didn't he?

Only people that could even come close to stopping him would be someone who has a chance at getting him with illusions(unlikely) or possibly Pain...possibly.
Well, everyone you just mentioned is just so cool that they can fly and kick arse.

Ranged attacks aren't all that rare, so one doesn't have to fly to compete with fliers.--
Deidara seemed to think his bomb could compete with Onoki's blast and wanted to see which is stronger, so that gives us a rough idea.
Wasn't Deidara planning to use C4, which does no damage to the enviorment?

No, but the thing is that very very few ranged attacks are known to reach so high up, not unless the enemy is flying within 10 meters or so.
Plus fliers have the added advantage of extra maneuverability in the air. It's a whole extra plane of movement that they get. Ground users are mostly restricted to horizontal plane movement.

He wanted to see which was more artistic, not which one caused more damage.
At one point, he thought the Sharingan was art, and it didn't do any large-scale damage. On the flip-side, he thought C0 would be his greatest work of art.
Scale of damage of the tech doesn't matter in that regard IMO.
Plus, you know, Edo Tensei invulnerability.

Likely any ninja could fly with Onoki granting them flight.

I can't recall properly.

Yeah, true. But don't forget Sasuke. Kirin would annihilate Onoki. 313
Indeed.
Flying can be an advantage that isn't exploited too often IMO. Deidara was the only one who exploited it, and both times he was up against someone with the Sharingan, so he was destined to fail. 😂
Against people like the Raikage and Killerbee (Base), flying high enough could own.

Even though that's the normal range plenty can hit farther. Kirin'd be great against aerial foes, some fireballs can travel pretty far (like the ones Sasuke used to set up Kirin) though hitting is a concern... and thrown projectiles & leaping. Tsunade and Guy could probably chuck something at dangerous speeds for kilometers.
Anyone with a Menace Ball. Back when all biju were intact, every village at least has that option.
With their guard up, I'd be surprised if every village didn't have enough strong ranged ninja to fight off Onoki trying a bombardment.

That helps, but throw enough stuff at someone and there'll be trouble.
The less and less I give a shit about manga and anime in general, the more and more I actually start to see the good parts of the writing, compared to the bad parts.
Thinking about it, as a whole, Kishi's actually done a pretty good job of tying the characters in. The only real dislike I have is that Madara's a shitty villain with no real motive or modus operandi. Aside from that though it's pretty cool. I even like Sasuke's character now.

GTFOutta har wit dat shit! 😠 😠 😠
Kishi does tie in his characters pretty well, though. But that's more of a retcon thing...without having to retcon.
It's like this:
Kishi: I'll introduce new characters A and B.
*200 chapters later*
Kishi: I'll make characters A B related, now.
*100 chapters later*
Kishi: I'll introduce characters C and D, which have no relationship with A and B.
*fans rave over characters C and D*
*20 chapters later*
Kishi: Now I'll make D the master of C.
In there, somewhere, we really have A and B being brothers. WEEEEE!

Sasuke is one of the better characters as far as tying into the plot goes. Hard to believe Kishi threw him in at the last minute and all. 😛
A and B being brothers was established early on actually. awesome

Kirin could hit anyone within Sasuke's range due to its speed and accuracy, and it would be much easier to hit aerial foes, so that's pretty much a given.
Only Sasuke's Great Dragon Fire could go very far. The rest are all around 10 meters or so.
They could chuck something? The flier would probably see it coming from a way off, unless they are caught from behind.
With their guard up sure, they could prepare some sort of defence in advance. Though if Onoki manages to get above Konoha, and no one has mounted an attack against him, it's pretty much over.
Plus no one in Konoha seemed to do anything once Deva Path went up in the air and used Shinra Tensei.

Not as much as there would be if they were on the ground.
Onoki's also pretty fast as well, and about as maneuverable as Deidara, who could avoid Gaara's sand attacks.
Then there's Deidara himself who was able to get above Sunagakure without so much as a warning, and if it weren't for Gaara, he probably would have had much longer to sneak about.
He could have also dropped around 3 C3 bombs instead of the weak ones he used.

Pfft, Sasuke is one of the better characters in Naruto period. 😛
Naruto was nearly one-dimensional back in Part 1, but he's become a good character now IMO.
Then we have characters like Kakashi who just radiate awesome.
While people like A, B & Kisame are awesome as well, they aren't deeply relevant to the plot.

But there shouldn't be anything special about Sasuke's fire, I think it's just how it's used/ how much chakra goes in.

If it's something small, it could be going super-sonic though.
Hm... it also occurs to me something could be thrown into the attack itself to cancel it out. Like a rasenshuriken or two from Naruto (while it might not have the destructive area, it's far more concentrated than most big-boom attacks, so might be good for blocking a bigger one).
Plus no one in Konoha seemed to do anything once Deva Path went up in the air and used Shinra Tensei.
In their defense, they were fighting 5 other paths (including tons of summons) and Konan at the same time.
