I don't think that is how the technique really works. Chouji would be far far fatter when during the Sasuke Retrieval arc, what with him not training or doing any difficult missions and so on. Here he would have less fat than before and yet he is using the technique to a far greater extent than he was before. Look at how much chakra he got this time around compared to last time!He might need a year to gain as much fat but that doesn't make the technique null and void. You don't have to be huge to use the technique, though it would certainly help.
It converts body energy, and the body gets its energy from carbs in short term, and fats and one particular carbohydrate in the long term. Of course, some proteins can be synthesized for energy but they aren't as efficient as carbs and fats are. Carbs are short term mostly, so fats should be by far the greatest contributor. We see him lose body mass dramatically, and most of it are likely fats, so his fat is being converted.
Yeah, but he's a fair bit bigger now. Just because he might have 'looked' fatter then doesn't mean he had more body fats then.
The pills are also a Three-stage process of drawing out chakra. It's only after the Red Pill that his body's mass gets used up so dramatically, and prior to that, he had been drained of chakra by Jirobo.
No, it doesn't make the technique null, but it certainly makes Chouji's current feat with the tech null. It wouldn't be as effective if he didn't have that much fat and carbs/proteins to convert. Conversely, it'd be more effective if he had more fats and carbs to convert.

He'll always have calories though. Unless they starve him or something.
Note, he thanked Chouji only, nobody else. Also note, Chouji is holding Hizashi instead of one of the sealing squad members. Keep in mind, Chouji said he would end the battle and next we see the battle is pretty much ended. He didn't end it alone of course, but I'm not arguing he did. If he had, he'd be well above A-.
Shikamaru and Ino have not received that much praise from their parents. It is worth noting that no negative side effects are mentioned about what Chouji is doing and his dad is basically saying Chouji is able to succeed him now. I've not seen his dad use a barrier technique, I've seen him stall for some others to use one.
Yeah, but more fat = more calories to convert for chakra.
Chouji is next to him, and Chouji is holding down Kakuzu.
Yes, Chouji is holding Hizashi instead one of the Sealing Squad Members, but that is as impressive as Asuma being immobilized by Shikamaru's Shadow Shuriken tech, i.e. it's impressive, but not highly impressive.

It is when the opponent is genuinely unstoppable. If anything, it is a very impressive strength feat.Madara is looking for paths right now correct? Well, "Hunger" was one and there is only one clan I know of that fits that kind of description. And two very strong members of said clan are right there....
Just food for thought though.
Kakuzu wasn't unstoppable once Naruto's Rasenshuriken was used on him. Once all his masks are out, he has Earth techs to fall back on, and one of the best Raiton users was taking him on most likely. He doesn't look like he has suffered that much damage this time, thanks to Edo-regen. Though yeah, good strength feat, but again, he is multi-sized, so it's kind of expected mehbeh?
Nah, Madara's looking for a substitute now, not a Path. Chouji is good enough to be a temporary substitute.
So MAD just did a Naruto parody where the Hokage sent Naruto to the high school in Beverly Hills 90210, where Nartuo subsequently cheated to become prom king and queen.
Rather liked the parody all in all, especially Naruto's obvious female voice. Though it is sad they couldn't fit in more characters but oh well, guess life just sucks and I can't have my way.
Spoiler:
gedo mazo wipes out a lasrge portion of the battlefield, and uses lightning from his back. the guy from the land of rock with the big nose uses an earth move to protect the shinobi while chouji and his dad go to take gedo down. chouza distracts gedo while chouji uses his big punch, but it fails.madara goes for the treasures and says he just wants what's inside i.e. the brother's kyuubi energy.
Spoiler:
So with having energy from 8-tails too, Madara has samples of all 9! Granted not the same thing as the full thing, but no doubt useful to him. Maybe he'll even be able to make incomplete 10-tails...I'm surprised he managed to snatch the gourd, what with Samui and her brother still inside.
Kitsuchi's earth jutsu was *uber*. There's almost no question he's the second strongest person in Stone in my mind.

Wow, is he really trying to claim that half of all troops died on the first day? That seems a little bit implausible since we saw barely anyone die this whole time.
Casualties doesn't necessarily mean dead.
And keep in mind there was a *lot* of mook vs Zetsu action, and probably Edo Tensei fights we haven't seen.
There was so many Zetsus that Neji was having serious trouble not getting grabbed. Imagine how well the no-names in that sector did.
