I think smilies should be used in most discussions because words can lose their intended meaning. Like...when I say something dickish...it could be sarcasm intended for a laugh...or it could be something hurtful. So I add this ---> 😐 for seriousness.

Yes, he was stunned. He wasn't taken out or stopped. Itachi saw Orochimaru's attempt to cancel the genjutsu and cut his arm off. You think a cut arm would stop Orochimaru from trying to take something he wants a lot? The genjutsu itself was likely canceled due to the pain Orochimaru must have felt.

Since their fight ended there, it is more logical to conclude that Itachi knew of the tech because of his being part of Akatsuki and that Oro is so absurdly famous.

Eh, usually the best tech that a ninja has is kept secret or known to only a handful of people. And this is irrelevant anyway, seeing as Itachi had experienced the Hydra tech first hand. Itachi and Orochimaru weren't partnered together in Akatsuki, so I don't think they saw each other fighting other enemies.

Simple. How many people knew about Jiraiya's Sage Mode and what it was? Did Nagato or Naruto know about it?

Except we don't know if the fight ended there. It was just Orochimaru's flashback that ended, which is understandable, as he was remembering the time Itachi used the same genjutsu that Sasuke did.

Second, no, Orochimaru is not stronger than Jiraiya. Good cite feats but I'll just point out that the databook states Jiraiya has better stats than Orochimaru, Jiraiya also being tied with Itachi.

Third, Naruto is full of crap if he actually thinks he is incapable of beating an injured tired Sasuke. Though if the fight had happened, Sasuke would probably win because Naruto was poisoned. But that's rather irrelevant.

Eh, he wasted a few seconds listening to Naruto and pointing out the tech's weakness to them. 😛

Databook Stats again? Lulz. Orochimaru has been consistently portrayed as superior to Jiraiya if they were to fight each other. Sage Mode probably gives Jiraiya an edge, but it's not like Orochimaru does not have his own power mode.

If you want to compare them to Naruto, Jiraiya got pwned by KN4 Naruto. Orochimaru pretty much stalemated him. awesome

He is full of crap, but he saw something we did not. IMO, he's not talking about beating down Sasuke physically, because that would not accomplish what Naruto is trying to do.

That said, the logic and points Astner uses to try and prove that Itachi > Nagato is humourous at best.

That's a good reason to make it more believable. Is it possible that he only pretended so that Karin would end up in a better place?

I need to re-read that scene again to see if there is room for the "throw rocks at your wild animal to get it to go into the wild instead of follow you"* trick.

Of course. Karin is his sleeper agent in Konoha (he genjutsu'd her to forget their plan), while Suigetsu & Juugo are resurrecting the Seven swordsmen for Sasuke's main strike-force.
