I actually agree, they are going to win (don't think it will be easy though). Kishi is not going to go through this whole "the five kages united!" shtick only to have them lose. I think more characters will end up joining the fight before we're done, though, and i'm sure we'll see Madara interact with Tobi before either one is gone.
Yeah, obviously Madara isn't going down without a fight, afterall he has been sold as the big baddie of the series for a long duration now and he should at least live up to the challenge.
I wonder if he's the strongest character we will see before the war ends?

I suspect Sasuke will achieve Rinnegan, now that we know its a possibility. He will probably top Madara.
I suspect Tobi will at least partially become a super-jinchuriki, he would beat Madara (hell, I could imagine him giving Madara a good fight right now).
I suspect Naruto with full control of the Kyuubi would surpass Madara.
I said it like that because I'm getting the feeling that the War arc will be cut short and the conflict with Tobi and Sasuke may be left for some future point in time -I don't see Sasuke getting the Rinnegan nor pulling any decent feats with it without the aid of some time-skip of some sort, the same with Naruto mastering the Kyuubi-.
Needed to go on longer. Certain things I'd like to have seen...
The Zetsu clones killing a lot of people with their strategy. Seems like we only got to see a few.
More of the Swordsmen fighting.
Chiyo using Kimimaro as a puppet. Would be an awesome team.
Kakuzu, Hizashi, and Dan fighting.
Naruto NOT using Shadow Clones to ridiculous extents and having to actually go from place to place to help.
On the whole, I'm pleased.

I agree with all of this. Also wasnt there like a point somewhere where kakashi says that he's going to go on a rampage with all his learned jutsu through the years....and he ends up doing it off panel? that got to me.
I get why logically theres no point to bring in the weaker shinigami, as they'd just get absolutely slaughtered, but from a narrative perspective, its a serious issue in scale. One on one duels are very narrow in focus and a war should be epic in scale. As it was the only time it felt big was when all the captians/ Issin, Urahara and Yoruichi were trying to take Aizen down together.
If it was me I definately would have had an army there. I would have set it in the real town and have Aizen send out a bunch of Hollows to kill all the inhabitants. The weak shinigami would then have a reason to be there while the major players fight it out amonst themselves. This would add size and scope while adding the human motivations of the characters trying to kill the Espada quickly so they can save the humans, but also needing to hold back so as not to hurt them. It would also allow the Espada to get some kills (the lesser shinigami) so as to seem a real threat, which would add to the Captains desperation as they see their subordinates die.
Essentially I would do everything Naruto is doing right that Bleach utterly failed at.
Indeed. Naruto might have been avoiding the deaths of characters with names but they are giving us deaths. Heck, most of the 4th Division is dead now, minus the few named characters in their ranks. And we got to see the Zetsu do some ninja killing during the night, which I really would have liked to have seen more of, cause it was tense.
And yeah, I would have liked to see more of the 3rd Division fighting.

There is a point though: To make the villains look threatening. 😛
No-one thinks beating up random Shinigami makes you look threatening 🙂
I mean, random ninja in groups can do *something*, and rank and files even occasionally have useful abilities (at least, if done in large groups), but in Bleach you don't have to be too strong to be flat-out immune.
I do! I thought when Ichigo's group was beating up Shinigami left and right made them seem like legit threats to the Soul Society. It made them look like they've come rather far.
Indeed. Bleach shot itself in the foot by making the Captains so much stronger than everyone else, to the point where it is laughably sad. Naruto has kept the balance issue in sync for the most part. Well, Naruto himself might make it seem a little unbalanced but whatever.
