The vampire bat is NOT a vampire. It doesn't even attack humans, it only bites pigs and cows. I mean the walking undead, I mean humans who mutate to wolves, I mean zombies who crawl out from their graves. I live next to a cemetary, and have been for 9 years, I still haven't seen a zombie. Komodo dragons, Bearded Dragons, etc, don't count, they are lizards that don't grow beyond 4 or 5 feet. I mean where is the fire breathing, where are the wings, where are the features of a true dragon?

They aren't "generally the same thing". A vampire bat is a mammal with wings who gains nutrition from the blood of cows and pigs. A vampire is a human being who has come back to life to feed off of living humans, and has several supernatural powers, i.e. turning into animals, turning into fog, etc. Where is the similarity? The blood drinking? It takes more than that for them to be "generally the same thing".
A thawed out Ice Age is much more believable than a flood from heaven.
Actually, in most vampire myths the vampires DON'T consume human blood. I remember that because in my sci-fi/horror lit class we did a project on vampires while we read Dracula. If you'd like I'll find the info again.
