I have to say this Film has touched me deeply, its very emotional and poignant. I cried a few times, especially when Mary wants to see Jesus and she sees him fall, she gets a flashback of little jesus falling. That made me tear up. this has impacted me and my religion, i felt sorry for Jesus.I love this film, i consider this one of the greatest film of all time, for the important reasons.

the historical accuracy of the bible and the life of jesus has always been very strongly debated
Disregarding the bible and the spiritual/religious aspects of all of it, there is apparently some proof that this man existed. Even the Jews, who do not consider him to be the messiah or anything like that, and, as far as I know, don't acknowledge the new testament, acknowledge that he existed. Just that fact alone (his existence) makes the movie about a historical figure. If you believe the bible &/or that he was the messiah, then the movie has deeper meaning for you. If you do not believe those things, then you would probably see it as fact & fiction mixed (which is what I gather from many of you). As to the actual existence of this man, though, if you want more info, here's a good link.

ok so i just saw this movie and i must say that this is the only movie that made me cringe! i this movie was truly a passion film and i felt it really meant something for Mel Gibson.
although i will not change my beliefs, this movie does interest me to find out more about the crucifixion.
thumps up from me. 👆 👆
i just saw the movie today too. i never cried in a public place before. this was very eye opening for me even though i have knowledge of it. mel gibson's visualization is excellent. one of the best parts was the single rain drop when Christ died. and the fact that they used the languages they talked back then put so much emotion into the dialogue. really good film.
other links that migght be interesting that challenge the alleged Jesus person

no offence juli but I talked this over with quite a few ppl who specialize in the matter, (my dad for one; professor of modern history, a few friends of my dad; most of them are theologists(sp))
and well even they say there has never ever been any real prove of a person like the one mentioned in the bible to have existed.
There is prove of a person called Jesus, but more ppl in that age were called Jesus, and there is even prove of a person named jesus to have been sentenced to death by crusifixtion.... but those sources are not really accounted for as valid by most historians.
In the end the sources are not conclusive about wether or not he has existed. and aslong as they are not conclusive they are of no real value...
They can't fond his bones becuase he isn't on earth, do you know the resurrection and ascension story?not everyone share your belife that this alleged jesus charachter is a divine being. And yes I know of the resurrection and ascension story/tale. We have 9 years of christianity forced down our throats at school here in Norway.
