"I'm working for Faylar," says Argentis. "For now."
"Balek was never a pleasant man, even in the old days, and he was always dangerous. He was on a planet out on the fringe when a young woman, about your age, took his fancy and he... um... 'took' her. Very violently. Oddly enough, her brother objected and tried to bring him to justice. This was five or more years ago now."
The young man orders a (non-alcoholic) drink from the bar.
"But it wasn't that easy. The planet she was on at the time has a very different culture from what we are used to. She was there on an archaeology field trip, I think. But the planet treats women as property. Not people. So Balek could not be convicted of rape. Instead the authorities ordered Balek to pay her brother 2000 credits comoensation for damaged property."
He drinks.
"Her brother appealed to the Republic, of course, but you know what the Republic courts are like. Slow even when they do decide to get involved, which they didn't. So the sentence stood. Her brother took it very badly. But her brother was also a Jedi."
He drinks again and he seems to find telling this part of the story rather emotional. You would think he was talking about himself, only he would have been pretty young at the time!
"He tracked Balek there and confronted him. And in a moment of weakness, attacked him. In the fight, he cut off Balek's arm with his sabre before he stopped himself. The amusing thing was that Balek was hoist by his own petard. Under the same backward laws of the planet it was ruled that the Jedi had the right to tkae his vengeance for broken propertly personally on Balek. All he had to do was give the money back.
"The Jedi Order was less happy, of course. He has come within an ace of falling. He's had a lot of counselling since then and I understand he is still not allowed off Coruscant.
"Balek got his arm replaced but he's never going to forget what happened. He has an amazing hatred for anyone that carries a lightsabre. And since then he's become one of the finest Bounty Hunters in the Galaxy. He goes for big league stuff. He's never killed a Jedi, of course, but he would love to try. Thing is, he's not stupid. He only ever fights on his own terms, and at the right time. He's heard of how many people you killed on Jaglon Beta. He'll be waiting a good chance with you, now. And the others."
He finishes his drink.
"I just want the same information Balek wanted from you, really," says the man. "That's why I follow him." He looks at you again. "You really are VERY beautiful. I can see why Kuylen likes you." His hand slowly reaches for your hair.
