OSCAR NOMINEE THOMAS HADEN CHURCH CAST AS
THE NEW NEMESIS IN SONY PICTURES' AND MARVEL STUDIOS' "SPIDER-MAN 3"

Latest Adventure set to debut worldwide on May 4, 2007

CULVER CITY, CA March 22, 2005 - Thomas Haden Church, who was most recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in "Sideways", has been cast as Spider-Man's new archenemy in the next chapter of the "Spider-Man" adventure, it was announced by director Sam Raimi and producers Laura Ziskin and Marvel Studios' Avi Arad.

"Spider-Man 3", which is scheduled for release on May 4, 2007, will reunite the successful team that was responsible for the first two blockbuster films. The franchise has grossed more than $1.5 billion in worldwide ticket sales and the new film will again reteam director Raimi, producers Ziskin and Arad, and actors Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst as M.J..

Production on "Spider-Man 3" is scheduled to begin early next year.

"In addition to the on-going relationship between Peter Parker and M.J., these films are driven by the great actors who have brought our villains to life," said Raimi. "Thomas Haden Church will be a fantastic and challenging new nemesis and we all look forward to working with him."

The identity of the new villain is being kept secret and while speculation is rampant about which character is being called into action, the studio will not comment on the casting beyond confirming Church.

Since his star-making role in "Sideways", Church has been in demand. The actor is voicing one of the characters in the upcoming animated film "Charlotte's Web", and he recently appeared in Columbia Pictures' "Spanglish". Church previously appeared in such other films as "George of the Jungle", "330 Miles to Graceland", and "Tombstone". In 2003, he also starred in, co-wrote and directed the comedy "Rolling Kansas". From 1990 to 1995, Church played Lowell Mather in the TV series "Wings".

I thought I recognized that Thomas Haden Church guy from somewhere. He was the bad guy from goerge of the jungle. What a weird guy to pick, for the fact that I don't ever see him playing a serious role. Then again, Alfred Molina played Snideley whiplash in the dudley do right movie, and that wasn't quite serious either. though Alfred did have a brief appearance in the beginning of the first Indiana Jones movie called Raiders of the Lost Ark. And I think he had some pretty serious roles after that. So I guess he made more sense than Thomas Haden Church does. I wonder what villain he'll play.

furious

Ouch!!! if this is a reliable source.. i know that you V-man fans are pissed: Quote from that article:
But every Spider-Man villain ever has been mooted somewhere, from the dome-headed Mysterio, to the demonic Hobgoblin, to the bad-tempered Vulture, to fanboy favourite Venom (note, guys: Sam doesn't like him; Haden Church looks nothing like him; it's not going to happen).

Thats gotta hurt!!!

I will agree with some of what you said..i think 😕

there is something special about an actor who does a roll that "crosses them over" in our minds eye. I reference comedian Michael Keaton. He original couldn't be taken serious and dropped "clean and sober" on us. IMO a great movie with some serious acting by Keaton.

NOTE: Sorry about the "stuttering" responses...was trying to catch up with you all.

Its not looking good for venom, but he might turn up in the future.

Whoever he plays I'm sure it will be a great villain, as long as they give him a good back story. He looks like the Sandman. I would love to see the graphics they could do with the sandman.

he has the face of hydroman

it's not a reliable source. i read the article on someting like, "Yahoo: Greg's preview." it's just one guy who works for yahoo's opinion. it's nothing to worry about.

he does have a hydroman face, but i really don't think they'd put hydroman the movie. im gonna have so say sandman for now. i wish they would do lizard, but i kinda doubt it

I think Jim Belushi could play the role of Kraven in the third Spidey movie.

i dunno. im not too big a fan of kraven, and i dont know he would do in the movie.

I just don't see why he would pick Sandman...is he really that popular? I never thought he was.

not as popular as Doctor Octopus or any of the other good ones, but the special effects would be awesome.

The villain has to have a power or he'll be not match for Spider-Man.
Looks like Mysterio's out, unless that gave him telekinesis, that would rock!

maybe if belushi couldn't played the role as kraven maybe christopher walken could be the role as kraven too.

Christopher Walken?! You kiddin' me?! If he tried to move like that he'd break a hip! (Yeah, I know, stunt doubles and CG, but that can't save him all the time. He's gonna hafta be launched through something at some point)

I'm with Carnage Junkie, Chris Walken would suck!
Jim Belushi!? That fatass!?

I think they shouldn't use Kraven, he has no powers.

They need a villain that has deadly powers or some kind of super-human ability (like The Green Goblin) how else would Spidey's suit get trashed at the end?
I love it how he gets all bloody and his costume gets all tattered. It's the mark of a true warrior.

Uhm... Carnage played by Kevin Bacon

...that's all I want... and it's sad 'cause it's never gonna happen

Sly Stallone could be the role as Venom.Martin Short as Carnage.Jim Belushi is no longer as Kraven but Chris Walken could be Kraven.but Belushi would portraying his role as Sandman.

😆 hysterical
