Is time travel possible?

Started by leonheartmm23 pages

thats logical, but then again, does something travelling back and existing in the past really need a cause for its existance and current position and "why its there", i mean if you concentrate a bit more on time travel, its like some incident takin place in a situation without any cause for its existance, unlike everything else which follows a physical predestined path.

What if I would go back in time and kill myself?

How did I kill myself if I was killed when I was one years old?

If is didn't kill myself, how did I die?

Confusing.

you can find out what came first the chicken or the egg....it's believed to of been the egg..but you never know.

that in itself is a paradox, the only logical explanation i can give is that each moment{the shortest single part of TIME that is possible to exist} is actually a complete universe which makes a sort of still in a movie so to speak, they are all following the same path that the film is supposed to take, so lets say you travel from one still to another and kill yourself in that past still, this would mean that all the future still are destroyed but you will not be destroyed because physically you have adjusted into that skill and the affect of your appearance has been transfereed in ways of force, energy transfer etc to the surrounding molecules and ur molecules in turn have interacted and taken affect of the things around you, so you are now as much part of that universe as any other particle or anything and you are not connected anymore to your old universe or still, so even if you kill yourself, you will survive, but because of your killing your own self, the entire future that was TO BE will be destroyed and the universe will follow a new predestined path as opposed to its previous predestined path.

What they are saying in science right now concidering the traveling through time, is that it is nearly impossible (nearly because nothing is technically impossible) to travle BACK in time...but it is very possible to travle foreward.. When we find a way to keep propetual energy going forever, then we can travel the speed of light. When traveling the speed of light, time outside the maching going the speed of light moves faster inside the machine than outside.. What I'm trying to say is that technically speaking, a person that was 20 going into a Speed of light, could possibly be 35 as the person not inside the craft is nearly 30....

But this is just a theory, of course. We still need to know how to find a way to keep prepetual energy. and thats nearly impossible

partial time travel is posseibel, anything with a velocity is basically time travelling but normally at normal velocities, the slowing down of time around the object is wayyyyyy too low to be of any significance, but if we travel at NEAR light speed,{not necessarily AT it} we can age much much slower than the world around us, meaning that if we went on a voyage around the solar system at 98% lightspeed{which might be possible in 20 or 30 years at least technologically} we will return in what would seem like a week or two to earth to find out that many decades if not centuries have passed sinse we left, its kinda like a 1 way trip to the near future}

the only way to reach light speed is if we had unlimeted energy

the russian astronaut that was manning the mir spacestation for a great length of time is said to be one fiftieth of a second younger than he otherwise would have been having never gone into space. this is due to the constant velocity of the spacestation as it curcumnavigated the earth. this doesnt sound like much due to the relatively low speed of travel but it definitely indicates time travel of some sort is possible. the days of travelling years into the future or past are a long time away if ever.

I believe that future humans will eventually travel back through time. Which means that they already have existed in the past so they have already done it.

I have a hard time remembering what day it is....does that count?

Maybe interfacing with ourselves is De ja vue (sp?)

Capt...just write it on your hand......

i just want to say this,

if it were possible to go faster than the speed of light ( not possible )
that would create negitive time, BUT that would not mean back wards in time, i mean you cant go negitive left because distance is an absolute value, instead it would have to be a switching motion in the time diamention.

And even if we were able to go back in time, and not interact with anything, quatum randomness would cause the future to b different, and the longer back you go more difference it creates, so more to the point here is your awnser:

IF YOU WERE TO KILL YOURSELF BACK IN TIME THEIR WOULD BE NOW REPROCUSION TO YOUR CURRENT EXSISTENCE BUT IF YOU WENT BACK TO THE FUTURE IT WOULD BE A FUTURE AS IF YOU HD DIED AT THE POINT IN TIME

If you went back in time and killed your parents before you were fborn, then you would simply create an alternate timeline in which you were never born. But since you come from a different timeline to that, you would not be effected, and you would therefore still exist as you have travelled into that new timeline from one that still does exist.

exactly! i think your the first person who has gotten that, but then again i've been talking to ppl with almost half my iq

Time travel will forever be impossible for this factual reason and this factual reason only.

Ready. ok.

If we were to ever build a time machine, and obviously it would be built in the near or far future, Then why hasn't anyone from he future came back to visit us... I wouldn't think that its because they would not want to. I think humans from the future would love to visit us just as much as some of us would love to visit our past...

And there you have it.

we would have to travel at the speed of light to travel back in time. Even if it were even possible, its not a good idea, because who knows what that could do to the world around us. It could cause some irreconcilable damage to the universe, which in the thread about travelling at the speed of light, several theories are explained. It's not as fun as Doc Brown makes it.

I think the future is not determined, and because of that we have free will. If someone from the future comes to us then the future is determined, its already "exists", and I don´t think it makes sense as for me future is yet to be decided. In other hand, I think time travelling could be in principle possible if we say that when we travel to another time, we are actually travelling to a parallel universe and a change made to that universe, like killing our parents, will not affect our reality and we will still be alive, that change in fact will just not allow our alter-ego in that universe to be born, I mean.. if we suppose that our parents in that universe will met and have a child.

I believe there are parallel universes that we all travel. I believe that our linear concept of time is deceptive.

The answer is:

Yes.

Look at what humanity has accomplished on thousand years. What could we accomplish in millions of years? Or billions?

Anything is possible if given enough time. And there is lot of time in the world.

we do it already. we call the time-machines airplanes. greenpeepants
