Very easy. Use the lasso to select just the person, invert the selection so that the background is selected, and then desaturate it.

Or in Photoshop you can simply use the Sponge tool on the background, that'll leech out the color and desaturate it too.

Sponge tool?! 😱

Why thank you. Sounds pretty easy enough! 🙂

Forgive my spam. It will not let me re-edit my post from before.

Alright, I learned how to do it but I used the edge seeker when using the freehand tool and I was wondering if there's any way I can smooth out the edges on the object that I originally freehanded around (if that makes any sense).
Here's an example.
Statue
See how the edges are...rigid and crappy? I was wondering if there's any way I could correct or avoid that and perfectly outline the subject?
Thanks.

Edge seeker? What the hell is that? Do you mean magnetic lasso? Don't use that, it's garbage.

What program are you using? I'm assuming Photoshop?

Edger Seeker is a PSP selection tool.

Aaah.

I haven't used PSP for about a year 😛

But yeah, don't waste time with that, it's crap. Just use the lasso tool itself. It takes more work but the only way to get good results is to do it by hand.

Alright, I'll try it, though I'll probably get crap results too since it's going to be done by hand

Graphics aren't meant to be easy 😛

True, true. Hehe. But I'll work with it.
(That sounded wierd)

I'm I the only one that, when I see "what" spelled "wat", I think of an old man yelling "Wooooooot?"
