Agreed with Strangelove.

I agree with.. both of you. If they are coming online and viewing attachments or talking via PM's then it will be unfair to delete their account simply because they have never posted. But if they sign up and then never come online I say after a year or so delete their account.

I personally think that any user who registered, say, a year or more ago and never posted once should be deleted from the site. Not because of space, because apparently we have plenty, but because that will free up their user names for name changes or incoming members.

I'm aware of that mods' position that it forces you to be more creative, but I don't see why we should burden active members for the sake of people who never even bothered to post once

And there's my spiel.

I asked this before myself, in fact i think 2/3 of the active members here have, and i have to agree with you 100% on this, it's really not that fair to members who are active.

I would suggest a "delete account" function. Some people get an account and then after a while realize they never visit the forums anymore, don't have any interest in still being a member, etc. As it is now, those members take up space on the server. Some forums have a rule that if you don't log in within 3 months your account will be deleted. Might be something to ponder?

what if you pm a person who hasn't posted, and if they don't reply within, say, a month, then go ahead with the deletion?

i fully support the deletion of unused accounts...

so do i, there just a waste.

Raz is rather reluctant to delete accounts.

Why?

We have many members who might disappear for a few months before coming back and becoming a regular again. I myself do it on a regular basis.

There's times when I'm too busy to visit KMC, or am out of the country and have better things to be doing. Why because of that should my account be deleted?

Cause you're a douche. But seriously you shouldn't.

Shouldn't what?

Should't have your account deleted.

2 years without logging in sounds fair, maybe even 3.

there is no reason to delete accounts imho apart from compulsive sock trolls. cant find a name? be creative.

Like me. haermm

Pruning old accounts has been brought up many times in the past. My answer has always been that I see no reason to.

I also don't see name squatting as a valid reason, I'm afraid...

The Foreign Cinema is becoming a couch potato....it needs exercise. ermm

What I meant with my post was that there is no "delete function" that the person who registered can use in case that person decides they don't want to be a member anymore. Maybe something like that could be installed? Others who want to stay doesn't have to use it and those who chose to will clear some space up on the server.

i dont think it would really effect server space.

I've looked into this in the past, but implementing this would mean that posts made by that user would be orphaned, and there is no easy solution to fixing that.

Advise has always been to set your email and password to something random, so it can't be retrieved by anyone including the original account holder. Maybe I could look into automating this?
