Only, they don' t.
So, apart from that blunt and pretty thoughtless statement, do you have any reasons why it's a bad idea?

edit, bringing suggestion to this new page for more to see.

I have a question/suggestion about sig limits. I think a number of people will agree with me when I say the sig size limit is appallingly low; 50kb is really not much space to work with at all, the amount of time I've had to, or have been told by another member, about how they've had to lower their quality to fit within this tiny limit. It also offers pretty much no room to animate: I can't even create a sig with simple scrolling text in the corner without it exceeding 50kb. I don't see why or why it should be this small, as many of the sigmakers here are extremely talented at what they do and should be allowed to express their skill with less restrictions. Even upping it to 100k would be a glad change, even though that is also pretty low either way. I've seen plenty of forums who don't have have restrictions like these, and they don't have any problems at all in that aspect.

So my suggestion overall is larger sig limits for users, and perhaps even being allowed larger sized sigs as your time on KMC continues, much like the avatar system works.

50kb is more then enough to make a good signature, hell, even 40kb was decent back in the old days.

We don't need massive file signatures.

Tried making animation much?

Go ahead try it, and then tell me it's not needed...trying to make an animated sig is a nightmare.

My point is that it offers practically no room to animate, really. Not even simple scrolling text.

I've made animated sigs fine under 50kb. I've made them fine back when the limit was 30kb.

I think the limit is fine as is. I like that there's an actual limit and that it's reasonable - a lot of the time on other forums that don't have those limits, I end up adblocking half the images on a page.

making DECENT animated sigs is next to impossible with the limit.

and also, what is the actual harm of making it bigger ?

does it affect the way the site runs ?

No, it's really not.

What, the fact that it makes things take longer to load isn't enough?

Not everyone has high speed internet. And there's a lot of people with 'high speed' that is in reality not much faster than plain old dialup.

Quite Wrong Speed.

well obviously I didn't know that it made things take longer, hence why I asked.

I have never seen someone make a nice consistent animation that has good quality, and that is within the size limit.

I've tried and I know many others who have tried.

Intelligent input Vinny, it's cool, just you sit there and reinforce what peach is saying, with as little syllables as possible, that'll make you look like you know what you're talking about 😆

Well, I've made animations under that size. Ken has. TOH is the god of animated sigs. There's a lot of people who have.

However, I think the reason more people don't is not due to size, but due to the fact that animated sigs are ****ing obnoxious and most people don't want to look at them.

It's a box with a little picture under every post, why does it matter? Don't kid yourselves into thinking you're the next Picasso.

It may not be important to a lot of members, but obviously to some it is. It's opinion, some of us don't just see it as 'a box with a little picture in', we see it is a demostration of our abilities, etc.

Not everyone has the skills you do, obviously. You and the others mentioned are pretty much experts at that kind of thing, while others such as myself aren't quite as adept. The animation I meant was more a small detail to it, such as scrolling writing in the corner to make it have a 'news report' feel to it, not a huge flashing panel of colours that burns people's eyes and distracts from reading other's posts.

Well, for starters, what program do you use? If it's ImageReady, then I can give some tips for getting animations down to the proper size.

it's adobe animation I'm using just now, the substitute for imagready on CS3.

can't do much with it, without it taking up so much size limit.

I use Photoshop CS4 currently, I think it has Imageready built in.

I personally think that animated sigs should be banned, they're one of the most annoying things ever.

Yeah the ones that cause seizures. Tastefully done they can be great.

Yeah, becasue me speaking before she was even involved in this argument makes that so true.

that's not what makes it true.
