umm...in an attempt to get this a little more on track...i'm gunna say what i think...even though some of you here can guess what i'm gunna say 🙂I believe in the Bible w/ all my heart. Its the Word of God, and i believe that the miracles in the Bible really happened. Its the core of Christianity, and many apsects of it can be proven...but you've also gotta have faith.
Put it this way, i agree with Li down to the last punctuation mark. 😊 Completely true ✅
PLus, some people look too much into it and try to prove with science that things cant be possible. People need faith. ✅
The Bible as we know it has been written in a time period of over 1000 years or even more. What exactly do you want proven? That every detail happened? That people existed, events took place. Some of them are very well documented, some less.
I always find it curious that it is the Bible that is so heavily being dismissed as unhistorical, while other history writing than we cannot check it taken as truth. Julius Caesar's writings are generally accepted to be accurate, just as other roman and Greek historians, we believe Newton wrote the gravity laws, we believe Columbus indeed took a trip over to America. Heck, we even believe people went to the moon. None of these we can prove with the amount of proof the critics among you want for the Bible as a historical document... Odd.
You can find it as odd as you want, but the other historical documents aint a guideline to how you shall live unless you wanna end in damnation.
What I want proven? Some of the persons mentioned in the bible are indeed historical persons and some events are historical. Many of the main persons/characters trough out the bible arent proven historical figures. A lot of the events arent a proven fact as a historical event, that goes for most of the events actually.
The main difference between the historical documents besides the bible is the other historical documents were written as they happened. While the storys of the bible were written at a later stage by many authors of unknown origin.
to me the bible is equal to Homers Illiad, stories based on myths and some historical events only altered to make a better read
In the beginning there were some Hebrew stories passed down through the generations. About cult-heroes and stuff. They were written down and became the Tora, The Old Testament.
Later: The Hebrew texts are translated into Latin. These Latin texts were translated into English with the King James version of the Bible.
There are countless wrong translations and problems with dates and accuracy in the Bible. That happens when texts are translated and translated again and again.
Some of the stories in the Bible are based on real events and people from history. That doesn’t mean the Bible as a religious text is THE truth. There is no archaeological evidence for Jesus for example.
Accepting the Bible as the literal truth is accepting countless inconsistencies and logical fallacies. That does not mean people can’t accept the “geist” of the teachings of Jesus – they’re as good as the teachings of Buddha and Muhammad. You know – don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t retaliate, don’t kill.
So the Bible is neither fact nor fiction. It’s both. So it isn’t THE TRUTH.
🙄 It is not indeed a surprise if there are people who does not believe in the Bible as God's words. ✅ God has forewarned His chosen ones about the coming of these lawlessness. God knew it... and He Himself allowed them to do it. For there will be a time that these people will face to Him in order to receive what is due to them.
He has proven these TRUTH to His chosen people ...
And He will soon prove it to the world. 🙂

Sounds like something Charlie Manson, or another cult leader might say. But then again, Christianity is just basically one huge cult.
i think it is fiction but based on some facts 😕
some info in bible goes in line with facts wrote by some ancients historitian (sp?) and it can't be all lies.
but eg. the part about making the universe can't be taken linerally coz each "day" could have taken a bilion of years.
it is only my opinion, there is no rule you have to agree. 😬

That has little to do with the debate whether the Bible is fact or fiction though, in how one should judge is as an historical document.

That goes for the majority of history writing, fins. It's always written after the fact and not always immediately. And not always by the people themselves. There are many historians running around in classical times and after that. We know many consulted older doucments that have been lost. For instance, there once was an Egyptian historian called Manetho who probably had access to solid historical doucmentattion about Egypt and their king lists. Only references to his work and what he wrote have survived, yet his own is gone. But we know he existed and did that. It's assumed by most bible reserachers that the Bible was based or compiled form older documents and put in order or form. Fact or fiction is the issue here and eveything that you say is no problem for that assessment.

Good comparison since archaeologists and historians are coming more and more to the conclusion that there's a lot of truth in that story. And that one has been dismissed as myth for the longest time. THe basic problem there lies in chronology of the ancient world, but I won't bore you with that.
