those who say its complete fiction are idiots. there really was a slavery period for the israelites, there really lived jesus, there really was a time when rome owned israel.

Of course, i understand you having a hard time believing hte rest, as i do sometimes myself, my cynical mind and all, but i do believe in jesus with all my heart as following is an action, more than a feeling or a state of mind.

I have never meet anyone that has said that EVERYTHING in the Bible is made up. Saying that the Bible is a work of fiction is one thing saying that EVERYTHING in the Bible is fiction is another and I can't see anyone saying that. First of all, we are but mortals and not omnipotent. We do not know of the powers that may be or the powers that may not be. For us to judge what we did not witness is folly.

For instance, there are documented poltergeists and no scientist can explain them. I believe that it is defenitely plausible that there is far more out there then we can see, and since we cannot see it, we are cynical.

Just because we don't know something now doesn't mean that we can't know it later. To learn is to question and if you don't have questions then you can not learn. Now there maybe a God out there that is just like what is in the Bible (if so I never want to meet him), and there may be aliens that seeded this planet with life but we can question both of these and use what we do know to come with the best explanation and if later down the line we find out explanation to be wrong then that is great and we have learned something new.

You have your dreamers and visionaries that will push the boundaries of what is "known" and they have "faith" and they will try and prove what they believe to be true. The mass majority needs some type of "proof" that something is real.

People judge what they do not see all the time, have you ever seen Pluto or a Black Hole? Have you been to everyplace on Earth, seen and talked to everyone? These are things that you have not seen but have logical concluded that they are real.
