The Bible

God is all powerful. Who says he can't keep the universe in balance without evil? Certainly not Christianity.

What's wrong with Evil? How can we know something is good without evil?

that's not a reason WD... without that fruit of wisdom, we wouldn't know what stupidity was either

You talking about the apple in the garden of Eden? That's a metaphor of the OT. Is not only stupidity but also disobidence (sp?)

Is a black hole weak because it can't push light away? No, it obviously isn't. You cannot keep a human universe in balance without evil ( You'd have to have have no humans; then you have no opposing force), in the same way that you cannot have a circular square.

I'm sorry WD but that's utter and utter BS!
If you want to make this being worth ANY sense, make a list of the ENTIRE bible saying which phrases to take as literal and which not and on what you base yourself!

it's very easy of you to say "hey, it's right cause it says so in the bible" and when there are arguements against it it's "it's a metaphor, don't take it literal" 🙄
it's either yes or no, if you pick maybe; you make the list

It doesn't matter whether it's a metaphor in reality, it just means that now we have balanced forces. It's from before people learned that e=mc2, before writing, before science, before Jews. The rest of the bible is very different. This is a unique bit, different from all the rest.

it DOES matter if it's a methaphor or not! if it is, taking the bible literal is wrong ergo, gods existance is wrong

Of course some bits are stories, or anatomically impossible. They can be counted as non essential metaphors, that are easy to recognize.

says who? there are people who take them literally

Which bits?

I see you want me to give you a list of things I think they might be historic or fictious. Is quite obvious you want to issue me an assigment. Then you will grade me on what you might think is Fictional or fact. Is obvious this isn't a conversation but more an investigation. Sorry to disappoint you but I can only post what I know.

And if you going to take that Tone with me I'll just keep out. Since is obvious my opinions need to be warranted or examine. 🙄

why should I know that? ask those nuts who take every single bit literal

Are you talking about the creation? Ever tried explaining advanced science to a bunch of idiots? They're not going to be exact,

what's wrong with TRYING? heck, it wouldn't be difficult to say the earth is not shaped as a square! people even knew that in the "dark ages"... why does the bible keep saying it then?

your first error: me grading you... you base yourself on that on what? your thoughts? it's wrong...I don't want to grade you, I want to know what you think is real and what is a methaphor and I would like that from EVERY religious person that enters a debate like this... just so they can't constantly change opinions when it suits them.

If you feel that my previous post had a nasty tone in it, so be it... I just want some clarity here.
You can come and go when you please, no one is ordering you or giving you assignments for that matter... but if you return, that "assignment" is still open for ya

Advancing science is not a Job for God. He gives us a clue that the outside is hard to reach (gravity) but doesn't go into specifics.

About the Voice thing: why would Satan answer your prayers with scripture? why would he lead you to do Good? if in fact it was Satans telling ya?
Why would God also answer people using Sunday School teachers, Preachers: during preaching or teaching?? they don't know what you are asking God, but the answer comes, if in fact it wasn't God, why would Satan give you these answers?

For your first mistake I ain't a Bible quoter. I repeat so that you can understand better "I ain't a Bible Quoter" Do you see me go around posting verses from the Old Testament or the New testatment? If so go throught ALL my posts and quote me on that. Are you under the assumption that I'm some religious fanatic? Nope not at all so far I only posted thing that are best to my knowledge.

I can come and go when I please? Really? Do I need permittion to posts my thoughts? Anyways before we pull each other hairs out let's me say that the book of Number in the Old Testament (don't ask me which verse because I'm not a bible quoter) does have a family tree which describe a bloodline from father to son. That's a good start! It shows that there was some kind of Kingship in the Hebrew culture.

[edit note] Your tone wasn't Nasty but you want some clarity? Go read the OT yourself. Then go talk to a priest or Rabbi and ask them. They have better answers than me.

The whole "well this is a metaphor because if it were literal it would make me look stupid for believing a book which said this literally, but this over here should be taken literally because it makes me look good and feel good about my beliefs" is just more proof of the inconsistancy pertained in the bible.

It's also invalid to say that without any sort of proof to back it up other then "your opinion".

Either the whole bible is literal, or it's metaphorical, simple as that. Pick one and move on.

That's a rather difficult task BF. Many books fall under the same category as the Bible. There are parts that are fictional and there are other parts that are fact. For example, someone in this thread mention the Iliad and the Odyssey. Is hard to separate the fact from the fiction because some characters may have existed. And I don't mean the gods, I'm talking about the wars and geography.

If I were to say that Bible is entirely Fictional. Then that means that the Geography is also fictional. The Bible Mentions Egypt and Jerusalem. So fi the Bible is pure fiction then those places don't exist.
