The Bible

a number of facts? like what?

archaeology has affirmed nothing... or nothing correct enough. It's not cause they find a cave near where jesus is supposed to have been crusified that he did lie there till he rose up from the dead! If you want proof, it has to be 100%; not cause it accidently suits your view that the bible is right.
and an errormargin of 30 years? for something that's supposed to be welldocumented, 30 years is a BIG timespan!

and the rest of your entire post is not worth replying... why? because you talk about the bible again... the point is that you proof the bible is really the word of a god without quoting the book!

How can YOU be sure the Bible is really the Word of God?

A number of facts make it reasonable to believe the Bible is accurate and reliable. Jesus, the Son of God and the greatest spiritual authority of all time, attested to the accuracy of the Bible....

shit

The Bible wasnt even finished until he was dead, and its changed a lot since then... quit making up facts.

Speaking of Archeologist and the Bible did anyone read my post about Newsweek article:

http://www.killermovies.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=303703&perpage=20&pagenumber=43

What amazes me is that the archeologists are endangering their lives to find clues about the OT and NT. Yet, people consider them zealots for their work. That's just friggin wrong!

The Bible is just a bunch of fictional facts. Besides, It's the meaning that you take from the stories in the Bible, not whether certain events happened or not.

Why woudln't they have happened? Christianity is one of the largest religions in the world. Do you really believe that that many people in our society would believe and follow with their whole hearts a book of stories? Look at all of the people in other countries where Christianity is not allowed and they are still following the faith even though they are being killed and tortured!

Yes, yes i do, and people are stubborn bastards..

Lots of people believe in Santa too... and the Easter Bunny.

All real people.

^ and 9/10 of those ppl who believe in the easter bunny or santa would be children more than likely below the age of 12.

and 9/10 of those ppl who believe in the easter bunny or santa would be children more than likely below the age of 12.
at least they give up on that belief when they see how insane it is, unlike some other believers around the world

I read it in a book that the Easter bunny exists... my parents told me when i was a child that it was real. As a child I wanted to believe in things like santa so much, he seemed real.

How do you know that you just havent grown up yet?

Things like the son of god dying and raising from the dead, angels, kingdom of heaven, etc. are no crazier than a jolly old man with a beard who flies house to house giving gifts to kids or a Bunny that comes by every easter and delivers colorful eggs.

FE> You CAN'T use the Bible to prove the Bible is correct. That's like saying "I am right, because I say that I am right." See?

"Jesus, the Son of God and the greatest spiritual authority of all time, attested to the accuracy of the Bible, even to the "smallest letter or stroke." That means NOTHING. If the Bible is wrong, then what is written in it is wrong. First you haev to convince me that Bible is correct and that Jesus existed.

"Archaeology has affirmed its historical accuracy."
Who did that? When did they do it? How did they do it?

"Biblical manuscripts number in the many thousands and, in some cases, date less than 30 years from the actual occurrence of the events that they describe – giving us by far the best attested historical document civilization possesses. "
Which biblical manuscripts? How were they dated? Who dated them?

WD> How are they endangering their lives? Are they believers? Are they biased towards their belief? Are they looking for clues to confirm their believes or ar they open-minded?

The Omega please read it again. Those Archeologist are endangering their lives for the purpose of academic education. What do we care if they are believers or not? They are searching to find some type of insights as to what happen thousands of years ago. How can these men and women possibly work with all the battles going on in Iraq? Take this paragraph from the report as an example:

In Israel, much care is taken to preserve the slightest trace that might reveal literal truths about the mystical teachings of scripture. The tragedy of Iraq is that contexts are disappearing as fast as the objects themselves. Archeologists are like crime-scene investigators trying to discover how whole societies lived and died. And to do that they need to know when, how - and especially where - each of the clue is found. "You take an object out of context, you are losing about 80% of the information it can give you," says Gibson.

Do you see how delicate it is to remove a piece from it's original site? With all the thieves and raiders running wild how can these people work properly and safety? That's happening in Israel! Can you imagine how difficult it might be in Iraq? With the whole war going on? Their work is important for historic and also academic research of humanity.

WD> “Those Archeologist are endangering their lives for the purpose of academic education. What do we care if they are believers or not?”
I do. Because if you go into an archaeological site EXPECTING or HOPING to find something specific, not just something, but something which might support your own belief, then you may not be completely open-minded.

why would it have? it's easier to say it didn't... proof it did, we can't proof a negative...
and sorry to burst your buble but many people have been FORCED into believing the bible, heck, I even read some letters from bisschops that were dated around the '50s in the archives here that litterally said people should be kept at a childish level 🙄 and then I haven't mentioned the "holy" crusades or "baptising" the new world...

I see, you're more interested in their honesty than their work. Okay, if that is how you see it there is no point in going any further.

that has nothing to do with honesty WD...
archeaologists and historicans and such HAVE to be STRICTLY open-minded about something, that is one of the very first rules

if they DO go and have only one objective; like finding something that suits their belief, they sin against that rule and are NOT open-minded

In reality we DON'T know if they are open-minded. But whatever discovery is made is sure to be tested and analyze by colleagues and others that will make it more observable and studied. To keep doubting whether they are bias or not open-minded is a waste of time. Whatever they discover of find will be TESTED to see if it is authentic or not.

it really doesn't matter WD, cause if they are not open minded, the things they dug up are already "contaminated"
what if they talk in an interview about their findings and people believe them? false information ...

Are you not making assumptions here by saying "contaminated"? Either way if it is "contaminate" that discovery will be tested to prove whether it is the real thing or not. Remenber that discovery with the so-called "James brother of Jesus" thing that was found two years ago? Tests were conducted and it was proven to be phoney. False information will always be proven wrong. So what they make interviews and appear in talk shows. The reality is that the tests will prove whether is fake or real.

Damn! If only I could remenber the name of the tests that are perform on relics right now.

it doesn't matter if it is proven fake or real, as soon as some person claims it's real, religious nuts will always believe him cause they are dying to find stuff that supports their claims
