The Official Symbiote Thread

Was the symbiote in this Japanese film similar in design to the Marvel kind? Or something different?

If any of you have ever seen the early/mid 80's horror films Freak Show... you'd remember one of the shorts having a slime monster out on a lake that stranded a group of kids there. It was akin to an oil slick, and although it ate flesh and was like acid to the touch, I do recall a scene where it oozed all over a girls face that kinda reminded me of the Venom symbiote in a way...

I've yet to see anything remotely close to what that movie had in terms of visuals to compare to.

Ever see Species II? I found the beginning sequence very similar to the intro to the Alien Costume Saga in the 90s cartoon series.

No, I never saw that movie, but thanks for the recommendation... maybe I'll check it out. Is the rest of the movie any good, or just the opening?

Orange--was it "Freakshow" or "Creepshow"? Creepshow had a bunch of shorts, but I don't think they could have been intended to scare anyone--it was always in the horror section, but should have been with the sci-fi stuff.

No, it's not like Marvel's symbiote, but rather more like the one you mentioned.

"Infection" set in an busy, dangerously understaffed hospital, with a largely callous, neglectful, self-absorbed staff. When they refuse to take a critical patient with a very high fever and a massive unknown infection, fate and karma intervene. Good movie. Try to find it. It's a Tartan film, who bring all sorts of unique Asian titles to western audiences.

The rest of the movie gets kinda silly / cheesy from there. But it does have interesting alien things, plot twists and some good acting-- The actress who plays Catherine Willows in CSI plays the scientist studying the aliens. I thought it was fun to watch, but don't expect high level art. Oh and it has some rather graphic scenes in there as well.

__I'll check out "Infection." The other two I've seen.
__I remember the Steven King-based story with the black amoeba trapping the kids on "The Raft." The victim under the membrane was a unique look and a smart employment of the properties of latex.
__Bad S, picture a black gum-bubble popped over somebody's face, with spit and blood and air bubbles smeared inside and out. Actually, several discernible layers of gum, with edges in different places. That's how I recall it. The creature-effect was more "ambulatory" than I make it sound. I think there was one unsettling shot where a thick layer slid along the surface of her face, kind of surged.
__Good thinking, Orange. The effects in "The Raft" could contribute part of the Venom-effects. I don't think it would be a good design for Venom, but it could work for the FIRST scene of the symbiote applying itself to Brock. After that, I'd want the movie to drop the half-birthed abomination look- though, it could be cool to return to it for his defeat.
__Yes, I do think there will be a Venom movie, and I can wait.

I hate bendis.

I like him a lot. Well, I guess I'll hate him eventually.

Just fixing it for you.

You beat yourself up, huh? I see now, this in-thread evilness is just to mask your own self-loathing. 😛

I'm already at her basement eyes

__Aww, you're so cute with your fluttery li'l eyelids... so d@mn cute. I would never cut them off. The one time you refused to watch me working on a "guest," I did consider it in the hurt of the moment- but tying your eyelids to your brow-bones with a single suture was just as satisfactory.
__Yes, this must be love.
__Nataku's right, of course. It can only lead to sorrow, and probably my state-sanctioned death by lethal injection. I just can't help myself. I'm so haplessly romantic.

__Love your sig, too.

I miss Mane.
