Yep, how ya been? 🙂

Peachy keen. Niiiifty sig. *stares n' starts drooling*

I've been gone for way too long. Things got really busy, and when it quieted down, my mind occupied itself with other things.

But that's just what I'm telling you.

OOO-WEEE-OOOO...

Well, glad to have you back. It's been pretty quiet here for a while.
I like your sig too, but I'm almost afraid to ask what that line about the hose is about...
---
A thought occured to me (it happens occasionally)...
You know that time when the Carnage symbiote bonded with Ben Reilly to form Spider-Carnage and then returned to Cletus Kassidy, his proper host... after having bonded with Ben Reilly, wouldn't Carnage have learned all of Ben Reilly's memories and therefore know Spidey's true identity?

I had a little debate on Koto's D-Drive forums about this awhile back... whether there was a genuine "level" of bonding a Symbiote could have with a host. (By "level", I am referring to just HOW bonded the alien is with a particular person.)

I really don't think a Symbiote can just fuse/merge with a host right off the bat... and certain comments, like Brock telling Spiderman "They haven't probably had time enough to join with their hosts" in reference to the offspring Symbiotes from the Lethal Protector series... support my thoughts.

When Brock "officially" bonded with the Venom alien at the end of the 1992 Spiderman Annuals' Venom: First Blood story-arc, the Symbiote asked Brock if it could "Join with him, bond with him permanently." What that has always meant to me was it could merge enough of itself to Brock to make pretty damned sure it wasn't leaving him under any circumstances; that it had basically become him and he had become it.

However, the future storylines featuring the characters such as "Cosmic-Carnage", "Spider-Carnage" and even my beloved "She-Venom" seem to suggest the aliens can just leave a host without any troubles at all.

My analogy for Symbiotic "bonding" is this: Say for instance a person is a glass of water and a Symbiote is a packet of Kool-aid. When a person links with an alien there's an exchange of dna/processes started between the 2 disparate beings... kinda like dropping the packet of Kool-aid into the glass but not stirring it in. After awhile of adjusting to one another, though... a more PERMANENT merger can be made between the 2 things; the alien can fuse itself to whoevers wearing it, kinda akin to stirring the Kool-aid in the glass of water.

Anyone else have any thoughts other then the random inflamatory comments and the "Hey miss me?" posts? This is, afterall, a thread about Symbiotes. 🙂

If you haven't read the Venom: First Blood arc from the 1992 Spiderman Annuals then I suggest you do. It features great art by a then unknown Aaron Lopresti. (He's the first artist to draw the hostless Venom symbiote with a visible mouth... which Ron Randall borrowed so successfully for his depiction of it in Separation Anxiety.)

__Hey, Junkie! Do I miss you? Where would you get that idea?
__What HAVE you been up to?

__Orange, I think there's a lot of continuity error, but basically there are two types of bonds- reversable and permanent. I don't think the nature of the bond determines how well the host adapts to the symbiote. I think it's the other way round. A sym won't permanently bond to someone who's not happy to be with it.
__I'm not sure how long it would take to make a permanent bond, but probably that has to do with the symbiote's experience in bonding.
__Do you mind posting a scan from First Blood; something that showcases Lopresti's art?

Welcome Back Junkie! We sure all missed you! I hope everything is going well now with you! 🙂

For whatever it's worth, I don't believe many in the Entertainment Industry think of symbionts and parasites as two completely separate class of creature, however one and the same. To support this I reference how many times have we seen acts/text in the comics of the symbiote acting like a parasite? The other is taken from the television series Stargate SG-1 where they repeatedly refer to the symbiotes as parasites.
Here are two links to Webster Online for proper definitions; http://webster.com/cgi-bin/dictiona...mp;va=symbiosis http://webster.com/cgi-bin/dictiona...p;va=parasitism
refer to the second entries of both definitions.
Now referring to the points which Orange brought into question, either organism parasite or symbiote, require mutual agreement on the behalf of host and organism to be separated without harm and/or pain. With that, if Brock did not want to be separated from the symbiote, and the sym did mentally & physically it would be quite possible for both entities to be rendered unconscious. However for any of this to be proven scientifically, we would require an sentient symbiotic being and willing host to mutually agree to take part in such an experiment, to test whether or not this is remotely true. Considering that is currently not possible and we are talking about a fictional piece of work that is the best possible conclusion I could come up with, and given with enough time every other person here wishing to participate in this philosophical conversation.

"__Do you mind posting a scan from First Blood; something that showcases Lopresti's art?"

Sure, I'll go ahead and put up the final bonding page on the Yahoo group for you to check out. The storyline is a "Must" for any Brock fan; I'm kinda surprised you don't have it yourself.

Awesome points, Scibott... I never really thought about it that way. It makes sense too... if it takes both beings a mutual wanting to "join permanently", then it'd stand to reason it'd take a mutual wanting to separate. I guess I was thinking about Reed Richards' comments on how the Symbiote was eventually going to "take Peter over completely" from wayyy back in the Symbiotes first Amazing Spiderman storyline.

That brings up an interesting question... when the creature and Parker were still together, it would flow onto him as he slept to bring him out webswinging at night... any opinions on what that was all about? I mean, that behaviour certainly is interesting and was never really given a good explanation on why it was doing it. (Feeding on his adrenaline I know, but he wore it alot anyways... why bother going through all that trouble?)

Most likely has to do with Parker subconsciously wanting to protect everyone all the time but unable to. The symbiote believing that to be what he wanted, so he could continue protection while he slept. It could also be a tactical maneuver for use when the symbiote finally revealed itself to Parker, to gain Kudos for such an act.

Activity apparently died down, here is my current symbiote work in progress; http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v425/SciBott/ae05ccaf.jpg
I have yet to decide on the placement of shadow and highlights.
Again I don't mind if you download and/or show another person(s) however, I do not allow others to reproduce my work unless you solicit your request to me, and I approve.

This looks like a job for MUSCULAR BEEEEAAAVAR!!!!!!!!!!
Swoooooooshh!!

EDIT

😱 Woah, check out this webcomic! 😱

__Seems like his jokes and charactors are a rip-off of JTHM. Oooo, sorry, I meant "homage." It's all Happy Noodle Boy and Nee, in differing combined percentages.

Anyone planning on watching the alien monster movie marathon on Sci-fi tonight? The one I'm looking forward to is on in 3 hours (9 pm Pacific time)- Alien Express, i.e. black slobbering alien trapped on a train. Tagline "Every car is a meal car." The Relic is on after that (11 pm Pacific time).
