Alien Express ended up having atrocious special fx and bad acting...
but the acting was still better then that of the new Star Wars movie...

So... anyone else catch that Venom cameo in House of M? 🙄

Land of the Dead kicks major, major ass. I loved it. I'd definitely recommend it. If you're a big Romero fan, it's a must-see. I speak as a hardened gore-hound and total Romero fanatic.... but that's just me.

It totally blew the "Dawn" remake and both Resident Evil movies *out* of the water.

George still has it goin' on, undead-style. Trust me. 😈

Sym your a real sick kinda chic arn't you???

We're all mad here. 😈

Here’s some stuff to actually get a real Symbiote-related discussion going:

Now, we know that the Symbiote’s ‘powers’ depend on the host’s personality. Say for example, the Venom Symbiote developed its ‘powers’ after bonding to Peter and acting as his webbing. The Carnage Symbiote chose the way of sharpened objects, which obviously came from Kasady’s sick mind. But one thing I’ve been wondering is how does a Symbiote go about mutating its host? Here’s an example:

The thing I’ve been wondering, does the Symbiote go about doing this at will? Or does host play more of a role, in coming up with the idea (Say, like Kasady for example. He was the one who first figured out how to send his Symbiote through phone lines)? I’d assume any Symbiote has this ability, since we know that they can all run through phone lines (Venom does it several times, after seeing Carnage do it).

Also, is the host aware of such mutations? In these pages, Kasady doesn’t seem to know about it until he morphs back into Carnage. Though, he could have been aware of this long from the start.

Another thing to think about: is the Carnage Symbiote a mutation? Its assumed that since the Carnage Symbiote was born on Earth, it has a higher resistance to fire and sound. Now, we all know that these resistances are true, but wouldn’t the same abilities just carry over from the Venom Symbiote, like say, its memories?

I'm thinking that mutation occurs during the "mitosis." Case in point: Carnage and the spawn forced from Venom by the Life Foundation all look vastly different while the Venom clone looks exactly the same and had the same powers because it was cloned from Venom's DNA with but a few genetic engineering changes. Spawing whether natural or induced seems to bring about mutations.

Obviously memories don'r carry over, at least in the case of Carnage. Otherwise wouldn't Kassidy have figured out where say Pete and Eddie live and go torture and kill anyone close to them (or unfortunate enough to be nearby)? In Max Carnage when Carnage is going to kill MJ he doesn't know who she is (or care) she's just another potential victim. If the Venom-symbiote memories had carried over, he would have known he could use her as leverage. Venom knows and saves her "Wrong choice of potential victims, Kassidy. This one's a keeper" and tells her to tell Spider-man that they're even for that time he saved his ex-wife.

The only time we see a Carnage seige at the Parker home is in Ultimate and it's not even really Carnage, just a red blob with some a clone of Peter's dad inside. 😘

The female symbiotes Scream (yellow, leopard print was big around that time right) and Screech (purple) have big 80s hair.

However, in the new Toxin series where the writers like to emphasize the evil heritage of the symbiote Toxin seems to have Carnage / Kassidy's "voice" i.e. personality traits as well as physical characteristics such as Venom-style fangs and Carnage-style claws. But... despite the obvious resemblence to his other symbiotic kin the coloring pattern of Toxin, red and blue-black, resembles Pat's hero (saved his wife) / rolemodel (becomes something of a mentor when he starts the whole hero thing) Spider-man.

Well, we know for a fact that Symbiotes can carry memories over into their spawn. This is seen in Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #430 and #431, with the whole Cosmic Carnage thing. Here we see that Carnage knows all about the Silver Surfer through genetic memories that were passed on from the Venom Symbiote (who got it from the Symbiote which it spawned from, so on and so forth, until we go all the way back to the Symbiotes who first saw the Surfer on their home planet). But you do bring up a good point. Apparently the memories that are passed on are selected by hand, it seems.

This brings up something I've long thought of... I actually think the Venom symbiote itself is a mutant to it's supposed "race" (that we were introduced to in that Planet of Symbiotes storyline.)

Why do I say that? Well lets examine exactly how the Venom costume came into being.

Spiderman got the Alien costume from a strange "costume making machine" on a planetoid created by the LIVING UNIVERSE that called itself the Beyonder... basically he was a being that could do ANYTHING he wanted, even stuff that you or I couldn't fathom. Spidey dug how Spiderwomans costume looked so asked the machine to supply him with something similar...

My point is Spidey didn't ASK for a living costume, but the machine, (created by the Beyonder btw), prolly just did it's best to fulfill his wishes in what he thought he wanted in a costume... perhaps drawing upon a race of "living costumes" to supply itself with a template.

The Venom costume CERTAINLY wasn't out to conquer like it's supposed kin apparently always did... and early in it's origin, the alien was described as "preying on emotionless prey"... suggesting even further it wasn't of the same "race" or perhaps "species" as the conquering costumes... making it different then them.

Which memories passed on genetically might have to do with their strength & importance. If the coming of the Silver Surfer (particularly if he was still a herald of Galacus at the time) might have been so momentous that evolutionary forces imprinted it into the species.
If the SS was their first contact, and he brought Galactus along with him, that might go along way into explaining why the symbiote culture encounter in "Planet of the Symbiotes" was the way it was. (Of course I would disregard the entire arc as crap, but it's the concept it intellectually interesting.)

It might also be that new memories aren't passed down because the older ones were artifically inserted. Their ancestors thought it was so important that used a lost technology to genetically engineer it into all of the children.

As for powers, I think all spawn and grand-spawn have the same powers as their ancestor plus whatever they acquire on their own. I think the differences we've all seen are just the host's [subconscious] choices in their manifestations.
On the same token, I feel that all of Carnage's uniqueness is just a result of Kassidy's insane pysche ordering the symbiote around in new and sicker ways. The part about it bonding to his blood not withstanding. (But they all might be able to do that.)

Orangepoindexter: Your point is interesting. To rip Stargate, it leads to Gou'ald/Tok'ra division/mentality. I personally feel that there are several sub-cultures of symbiotes out there, all with different takes on host/symbiote relationships. Ever wonder where the V-symbiote got it's ideas?

To my knowledge, they never explained why the Venom symbiote so readily adapted itself to being subservient to Parker when he wore it at first; if it was of that species that invaded so many years later, then it would have had a predisposition to "conquer it's host" from the getgo probably... (which leads to another thought on the subject; can they be CALLED Symbiotes when they are more Parasitic then beneficial to those they're linked with? I personally don't think so...).

Your discussion on memories being passed on is interesting... though Brock/Venom once said himself that each generation is of no interest to the parent alien.

Is it possible that the Venom symbiote merely told him that because it didn't want to care for it's offspring? Hmm... interesting thought.

Symbiote Sans Spider-Man

Alliteration aside, wouldn't the symbiote have been pretty crappy if it had not bonded with Parker and then gone to Brock? From what I've gleaned, the symbiote "absorbed" Spider-Man's powers and then transferred them to the wearer.

So, no Parker, no Venom/Carnage/etc.

Am I right or wrong?

You're right.

Yeah, it taylors itself to the original host's DNA and augments the powers of the original host. If a normal human was the first host, it would only augement the powers slightly. Maybe they would be in the the 1 ton range strengthlevels? Speaking of which does the symbiote absorb other powers if it bonds with different hosts? i.e. would the Venom-clone that bonded with Wolverine get a healing factor? I suppose not since Carnage symbiote didn't get the power cosmic after bonding with the surfer... (though that would explain his 'cosmic escape'....)

NVG, who--or what--is that in the middle picture of your sig (red, tentacles)?

And that's kind of stupid the way it was set up...I think the symbiote should give powers to the wearer no matter what, and they could be different kinds, too.

Oh, that's Kyuubi the 9-tailed Demon Fox from Naruto (anime / manga series). I just tried to squeeze some of my favorite characters into one sig. 😮

Yep w/o spider-man the symbiote wouldn't be a threat to anybody. Its another reason why the venom is spiderman's main problem/ polar opposite. Well until they team up. hehe

However if a symbiote possessed the Hulk... then I think you'd have strength levels = n+1 tons, with n = how angry Symbihulk is.

And the fellow next to it?

...Which would be retarded. To be honest, I detest the Hulk (as well as Superman or any superhero who is nigh invulnerable).

Don't know which "next" so here's the list:
Venom, Wolfsbane (X-men), Brooklyn (one of the Gargoyles), Tsume (cynical badboy werewolf of Wolf's Rain), Kyuubi Naruto, Sara Pezinni and the Witchblade, Jackie Estacado and the Darkness, Black Cat, and Carnage.

True dat. Just working my mad algebra skills. 😛

Also following flawed logic of previous posts Carnage no longer has the power cosmic because Venom reabsorbed him and Kassidy (via Howard Mackie 😘 ) got another Carnage from the negative zone therefore... Venom has the power cosmic. 😈 😂

Most screwed plot ever?

Possibly..
