well.... befroe super saiyen still goes. After that fight anyway. Remember when he landed on namek (if you watched those eps). His power level was well above 1 million before he went super saiyen, and while on earth he was still only around 20k (not positive on the 20k, but i think thats about what it was).
That really means nothing. I don't think they've ever said "Superman is exactly X times stronger than a normal human." And I can only remember one reference to a normal person's power level on DBZ. That's not enough to use power levels as a diffinitive reference to another character from another company, world, and universe.
I'm guessing it's mostly to point out to the kids that he's got so many times more energy than he did before or he's got so much more energy than this guy or that guy.

umm hellooooooooo that was the way b4 the frieza saga. and the only time vegeta was ever goku's equal was when he and nappa just came to earth. besides superman is who he is yet anyone who wields any form of magic can subdue him so , like......... there

Goku has the power to just lift himself on 400-800 (11*for Super saiyan?) ish times earth gravity. The sun has maybe 40000-80000 times earth gravity? It's a million times bigger, but with less density so i couldn't say for sure. Goku would have to be at least SS3 before he challenged Superman, what with Superman's near light speed maximan fight speed, and strength exceeding a hundred billion tons (what with superman pushing a third of the moon, which weighs about a thousand trillion tons, or one sixth of the earth).
Goku might have a chance though- inevitably, he would be weaker than Superman, who he would blast, filling the air with dust that would fade away to reveal the incredible Man of steel floating unharmed in the air. But, he would get stronger, and stronger, and stronger until either Superman won, or Vegeta wanted a quick try.

That's like bringing up Juggernaut's telepath vulnerability in the Juggernaut vs Colossus thread. Since Goku isn't a magician, that vulnerability is moot.
The comparison is fairly weak for this match up. The Dragonball series was aimed more at kids and young teens so there really wasn't much logic and the stories were crap. Not to mention it's an anime. Those are notorious for being "out there."
Doesn't Superman have thousands of years of fight training? In comaparisen with Goku who forgets to pull his foot back to kick?
Superman can exceed lightspeed. He caught up with light escaping earth once. Goku can max out by turning into light- which wouldn't work because Superman has reflexes to fight at near lightspeed, as shown in a chess game with a supercomputer, and could see Goku moving as light.
Superman can lift more than a 100 trillion tons, as show when he lifted the moon. Goku colapses under a building at base form, maybe one million times stronger at SS4? Less than forty or fifty million tons at his max?
Goku has to surpress any planet destroying blasts (as they would destroy the planet), which Superman has the endurance to survive (He went into the sun which uses half a billion tons of material a second in a nuclear reaction)
in dbz the characters just keep getting stronger every time a new badguy shows up. First no-one except broly from their entire planet could go super saiyan. Now goten, when just a kid can go super saiyan 2. and goku can go super saiyan 4, when his whole race in all their life time could never even go super saiyan....

Vegeta was moving faster than lightspeed in 600x earth's gravity LONG before he reached ssj1, and his normal form was weaker than goku's. Also, Goku is able to draw on the power of the sun as well, along with all other "life" (including rocks and water) on anything in the galaxy if he wishes to (and not just for the spirit bomb, but for his own personal energy).
mr famous, good points but that's overall irrellivant... the point is goku IS that strong... whether it is "fair" or not.
