really bad idea leaving the boy alone with the nurse Penny what are you stupid? Man I really didn't want widmore to be Dan's Dad
Man I new it was coming and I still think it is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Killing just about anyone else on the show would have made more sense. If they kill Miles I'm going to be pretty pissed.

So what was Widmore and Eloise's reason for wanting Dan to go back to the island then?
To maintain cause and effect.
Under "Whatever happened happened" rules, he was there in 1977, playing his part in what would be the incident.
(Daniel DID talk to Charlotte as a kid, but unlike the situation Charlotte described on her deathbed, He DIDNT tell her "not to comeback or she would die". Will that bit be someone else.....Daneil didnt seem to look very "Scary" while he was nearly crying his eyes out.
Yet things like the Incident that that have bearing on the chain of events that complete the loop will be unchangable.
But not the things that would create a serious paradox.
Everyone who opposes/attempts to oppose this physical law of the universe dies in the show, when course correction becomes neccesary.
Thats the way I see it, at least.

Yeah dude he did. Incredibly stupid of them to kill him if you ask me. the only thing worse was them letting us know widmore was his father right before it happened.
Through Desmond he may still feature.
He had to be silenced though...he knew too much and might have blown season 6 for us.
Daniel at other points when he was alive may still be able to have communicated with Desmond still (maybe while away doing his research?), but in Desmond's other timeframes.
So we might still possibly see him about the place.
Pure speculation on my part, granted.
Also: I have a theory about Daniel's Journal.
What if the reason Daniel would look in it to see when specific occurrances would happen, was that the journal already had future Daniels notes in it...?
All we need for this theory to be confirmed in my eyes is if we see past Eloise take his Journal now he is gone. That at that time may even have the details of events leading up to and after the frighter...everything.
It'd be like a time looped version of the Back to the future Almanac.

Daniel said that this was "present" them. Their futures hadn't been written yet, so they COULD die. He would have no knowledge of the future if that was the case.
If they do succeed in stopping the incident and thus succeed in stoping the plane crash and stopping every thing that has happened on the show from ever happening would anyone on this site be really pissed off.
Think about it. The season finalle ends with Jack and the 815ers stopping the incident and the last scene is of them all on the plane landing in LA back in 2004.
That would mean Locke still is paralized, Kate is still a criminal, Claire is still pregnant with Aaron. Sun and Jinn don't have their baby and Jinn can't speak english and doesn't know Sun can. Rose still has cancer. Boone, Shannon, Anna Lucia, Libby, Paulo, Nicky, Artz, Steve, Scott, Frogurt, Nathan, Charlie, Michael are all still alive not to mention Ethan, Goodwin, Tom, Bea, Danny, Abadon, Daniel, Charlotte, Naomi, Nadia, the rest of the people from the freightor the rest of the people from the plane, all of the others that died would all still be alive. It would make for a hell of a final season if everything was undone with one season to go.
Originally posted by SpaceMonkeyYes, but if they don't change anything in the past, then the future is the past that he has already written about. This is what I think happened: everything that Eloise knew about was from Dan's journal. And once Dan went to the Island, thereby ending his writting of the future, she didn't know about the future anymore, only what she could gather from the Lamp Post or her own intuition.
Daniel said that this was "present" them. Their futures hadn't been written yet, so they COULD die. He would have no knowledge of the future if that was the case.

I would love it if they had done that but there is no chance in hell they did. Now if it was me writing and creating the show you can bet that I would have been smart enough to do it.
Well, they supposedly shot a Jack scene in the series finale already, soo...
