Don't know but it seems that the whole heaven/hell thing is too convenient. So the characters in the sideways went to whatever they went too but the characters on the island get to go home?
If that's the case, whats the ****ing point of the sideways? Just to kill of ol Smokey?

I thought it was very well done. You didn't seem to grasp it. The sideways is the afterlife. That's why the cut on Jack's neck kept showing up. That's why characters kept remembering little things until they finally remembered everything. They were remembering their lives.
As Christian told Jack, everyone dies eventually. Hurley and Ben stayed behind to protect the island. They could have done that job for 10,000 years before they died....but they did eventually die.
Jack died on the island. Boone, Shannon, Sayid, Sun, Jin, etc. were already dead before Jack.
Sawyer, Kate, Lapidus, Miles, Ben, Hurley, etc. all died after Jack. Christian said some died long after Jack.
The flashsideways is a type of purgatory. Time does not exist there as Christian pointed out. It didn't matter when they all died, they were all in purgatory at the same time. They all remembered each other and remembered their lives. They were then ready to move on together to whatever was next.
the writers were smart. they didn't go with heaven. they didn't go with anything. they left it up to the viewer to decide where these people were going. A christian might decide they were all moving onto heaven, a Buddhist may decide they were all moving on to nirvana or to be reincarnated. All that was important is that they all met up in the afterlife to move on together.
ps. none of this had anything to do with Smoky dying. His power came from the light at the heart of the island. Desmond extinguished Smoky's power source and Jack killed him, just as Jack had planned.
PS. I wouldn't mind some sort of spinoff with Hurley and Ben. They left the series completely open-ended for many characters.
Hurley and Ben stayed to protect the island. They took the Jacob/Richard jobs.
Sawyer, Kate, Lapidus, Miles, Richard and Clair all left on the plane.
I wouldn't mind seeing something done in the future with these characters. Perhaps Hurley and Ben need to bring them back to the island at some point in the future.

Ben did form a relationship. He became Hurely's #2 on the island. He basically took Richard's job. He and Hurley could have protected that island for 10,000 years before they died. I think that earned him a spot with everyone else in their afterlife.

I know, but even Mr.Eko had a relationship with Charlie, Anna Lucia, Locke, etc.

Oh yeah; Christian explained it. So there was a purgatory/limbo after all. I suspected that since season one.
And the reason Ben wasn't allowed into the church is because he went to Hell. (That, or he's still alive, but they don't reveal how much time has elapsed.)
