Original Trilogy DVD- Discussion thread

Me too. 😄

Meanwhile...

After the decent ESB commentary, I was disappointed with the ROTJ one; they have no worthwhile replacement for Kershner. And all the way through the Luke/Obi-Wan scene, one of the key scenes of the movie, do we get interesting and insightful commentary by George? No, we get Ben Burtt waffling on for three minutes about sound in studios and putting sound together out of order and (falls into coma).

It certainly wasn't drifting by and making a silly comment like cinemaddiction did.

You're sitting around circle jerking over a topic that hasn't been moot for about 4 pages now, and it's getting ridiculous, and has very little to do with the DVDs. The thread in which it SHOULD have been covered was closed.

Do you not see how ridiculous you make yourselves look by debating something so trivial, and for so long, for nothing more than some sort of "I'm right, you're wrong" gratification?

I'd also like to know how I'm being hypocritical, when I have yet to take part in this stupid lightsaber color discussion outside of stating what I was under the impression of. Not once have I gone to such lengths as posting pictures, or debated back and forth over something so assinine and elementary.

It was hypocritical because if there was anything more nerdy than what we were doing, it was coming into a thread you could otherwise have ignored and making a cheap comment like that.

If you don't like the debate, stay out of it. If you have nothing useful to post, don't post at all. Simple as that. Now, stay on topic, or we may have to take this further.

That's your opinion, but most people wouldn't liken a subtle reality check to peoples heated debate over the color of a flashlight. 😆

Besides, the true hypocrisy in this is that you're threatening to take furthur action for doing the same thing you are, in derailing a topic? C'mon.

The juvenile laser sword arguement has little to do with the DVDs which are what is at hand in the thread. Perhaps you should start a thread regarding the matter, seperate from that of the DVDs, so that people such as myself don't have to be subjected to the mindless, (and anything but useful) drivel clogging the DVD thread?

Getting back on topic...

It so happens this is clearly the most controversial thing about the DVDs at this moment- why you think that has nothing to do with them, is beyond me. And what is most certainly not welcome is you coming in and criticising half the respondants to this thread just because they happen to be debating an issue- next time you do that you get a warning; keep doing it, a ban. People can argue and post pics in support or whatever as much as they like; that is what these boards are for. People come here to debate such things, NOT to be criticised for it. That's more than an opinion- that's policy.

And yes, back on topic, as you so spectacularly failed to do.

"Besides, the true hypocrisy in this is that you're threatening to take furthur action for doing the same thing you are, in derailing a topic? C'mon. "

I'm the mod. It is my job to intervene in topics and make these exact points when a poster like you goes astray. That's the way it is.

Once again the pathetic "I HAVE MOD STATUS" tin hitler pissing contest fails in any way to shock me. Personal vendetta disguised as "doing my job"

You should be ashamed to have the word Paladin under your name.

I couldn't care less what you think about that. However, I have asked several times now for a straight return to topic. That's not a request; that is the end of the matter.

STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHOP IT!
The green saber (and Ush, you know I agree that its an accident of color correction, although I also agree it should have been caught like queeq said) is gonna be fixed in the Ultimate 6 film box set later on. Lucas has implied in several interviews that when they all come out together, there will be further changes. Thats when the rumored Phantom Menace puppet Yoda is supposedly getting replaced. So everybody just drop it already. You know Lucasfilm is gonna catch hell for this, its gonna get pointed out all over the web and in magazines. Just wait a year or two and it'll be fixed so everybody grow up, relax, realize how trivial it is when we know it will be fixed. Christ, I thought the Emperor scene or maybe Boba's new voice would cause this sorta strife but not a simple mistake easily fixed later on. They'll probably redo all the sabers next DVD release.

All in all though, does everyone like the fixed SE scenes? Like Han/Greedo and the newer Jabba? I found the Greedo scene at least tolerable, still shouldn't have happened, but tolerable. The new Jabba is fine. I liked that scene originally when I read it in the script in one of the art books, but was disturbed when I saw how thin he was. New one's A ok for me. Also glad they took out Luke's scream. So how does everyone feel about the fixed fixes?

Nah, you're right; sorry everyone, it's been a bad day for me today and I let that spill into things here.

"this bickering is pointless"
I just got a part time gig in my local comic shop (mainly for the discount) and spent ALL THE LIVE LONG DAY yesterday defending these freaking films. You think its bad on HERE?! Try being in a comic shop with some of the most useless uncreative buffoons who, at the same time, believe they know more about everything than even creators themselves. One guy actually said "I'd like to shoot Lucas in the face". I've seen the error of fighting over little details and yesterday put things in perspective for myself. These films are still, with changes, phenomenal and yet to be topped for just pure awesome sci-fi mythic fun. They have the philisophical depth of greek tragedy coupled with some of THE most exciting action sequences ever! and that includes the prequels in my book. The whole saga is amazing, a labor of love, and above all: FUN!!! It's fun people. You remember fun right? before you all cared who shot first or whether or not their were rules for ghosts of jedi? When you cheered for Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie? when you sat, mouth agape at the massive awe of the opening stardestroyer in ANH? Or laughed at Yoda's ruse and throwing of Luke's equipment? Its fun people. I know I sound like I got into the catipillers stash right now, but c'mon? fighting over two or three second shots? Try to be a little kid again when you watch these, try to forget the worlds an ugly place and people are ugly to each other. Just watch them, ALL of them, and just say wow. Take your figures outta the plastic and set a battle up on a book shelf. Play lightsabers with your kid or a relatives' kid or any kid. And just say wow, these movies are the coolest things I've ever seen! 😱

But you would ruin his beard if you shot him in the face...

Has anyone else listened to Irvin Kershner's commentary yet? I would like to repeat my endorsement of it...

Christ, I thought the Emperor scene or maybe Boba's new voice would cause this sorta strife but not a simple mistake easily fixed later on. They'll probably redo all the sabers next DVD release.

I'm sorry but why should i wait till the next release for them to fix a problem that shouldnt be there in the first place? Oh and to top it off i should replace my DVD boxset at further expense to myself? I'm sorry, but for a man who says that the whole SE experience was designed to enhance and better the movies, i can't understand why he'd let such a glaringly obvious mistake go unchecked. Oh wait a second i can, it means he can sell us it all over again.

If it weren't for that damn sabre i wouldn't really have a problem, i can understand why some people think its a trivial matter, but for me it's like a paper cut; Seems small and insignificant, but it's bloody annoying. Otherwise the picture is outstanding; hard to credit they were made so long ago. The sound is unbelievable and a great deal of the changes enhance the film no end. The new Jabba scene in ANH looks 200% better than the original SE from '97 but i still think the inclusion of that scene is as bad an idea as Greedo shooting first. Oh and haydens ghost, i can't understand why he didn't leave old Seb Shaw in there.

bleurgh, The Emperor in ESB looks terrible ... don't like tinkering with the OTs and especially not something this big ... same with Haydens ghost (but at least that has a good point with Yoda commenting on the dark side: "Forever will it dominate your destiny"😉
Jabba in ANH should get completely cut, still badly done ... Greedo still shoots first (😉) but now it's imo acceptable...

then again, all in all,... what has a fan to say

Prozak huh? Haven't taken yours yet I assume? Like we didn't know a boxed set of all six would be released? C'mon. Everybody clamors for the OT DVD's but he doesn't want to release them till he's done. He finally cracks as says all right, fine here you go. But he's still gonna stick to his original plan to release all six as a nice collector's edition for those of us who still love and understand his work. I for one can't wait. Star Wars has inspired me in more ways than one. The second I heard the prequels were coming out I immediately dreamed of one day having all six in one nice boxed set.

and I guess the answer is no, we can't relax, let go of our bitter opinionated older selves for the happy amazed kids we once were. Its really too bad. They're so much fun when you just relax and let them take you away...

no way, i totally agree with Prozak.

and love the paper cut analogy 😄

I was born in 73, I grew up with star wars, every christmas for years, I collected the figures. I guess I am a life long fan.

IMHO, the originlals are great, I saw ESB and ROTJ first time round in the cinema and ANH as a double bill with ESB. Back in 97, me and my mates were the first in the cinema q for all three SE films. I own all three versions of the film.

The DVD versions are fantastic too, there are bits I dont like such as the new rebo band and the other poor attempts at comedy but on the whole, they are great. The sabre colour didnt really bother me to much, I did notice it, but only after reading the pages of mindless complaining as it botherd me more. GL has done a fantastic restoration job on the films we all love. I guess both vesions should of been included as on the Alien box set. I love the films as I have said, but they are only films.

I have still to watch ESB and ROTJ and am looking forwad to them. I think the SE of ESB was fantastic, I loved how the views of cloud city had been improved.

Dont like the Han'Greedo thing
They should have just left the Jabba scene out all together
Hate the CGI additions to ANH
Putting Hayden in the end doesnt bother me
Light sabers stuff doesnt bother me
LOVE the new color and sound
