Seriously, I'm not even just saying it to make up an excuse. Look at it. It's more than 3 feet in diameter in that picture. Probably close to 3.5 feet, which would GREATLY increase his defense, sure. But it's only a 2.5 ft diameter shield.
That's all I'm trying to say.

5-600 lbs? That's ABSURD. You're going of Jim Lee's art, in which everyone looks like a body builder. This man's nickname is SLIM. He's a skilled martial artist, but he's no stronger than than a soldier or something.
Cyke uses his training to learn how to kick and karate chop, raw strength and power are not his focus because normally he doesn't need them.
