Lord of the Rings vs. Star Wars.

First of all, this post doesn't imply that one is ripping off the other. I was just in a mood for rambling, because I'm insanely bored out of my head right now. I was just thinking, and decided to type what I was thinking, about the parallels between the characters of Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings, so before any hardcore fan from either side attacks me, I repeat, I'm not saying they ripped each other off. Just wanna make that clear. I don't need more enemies. 😛

With that aside...

LUKE SKYWALKER is FRODO BAGGINS
The hero of our tale, who is given a great mission to complete. Naive, and a bit of a wuss, and not really anyone's favourite character.

OBI-WAN KENOBI is GANDALF
Wise old mentor who recruits the hero of our tale for said mission. Ultimately sacrifices himself in a great battle to save his companions.

ARAGORN is HAN SOLO
Gruff loner who has become an outcast. However, beneath the cold exterior is a brave, noble heart. This character will play an important role in other battles while our hero tries to accomplish the central mission.

CHEWBACCA is SAM
Slightly dumb, comedic character who proves his true worth and loyalty to his friend. (NB - slight inaccuracy here, as Samwise is friends with Frodo, while Chewbacca is friends with Han Solo.)

R2-D2 and C-3PO are MERRY and PIPPIN
A pair of supporting characters who join the heroes on their quest, although they often find themselves in small adventures of their own. Mainly used for comic relief.

PRINCESS LEIA is EOWYN
A woman who, despite the protests of many, wants to be involved in battle. Falls in love with the gruff loner character.

YODA is ELROND
Very old, wise being. Provides a lot of information to fuel the plot. However, tends to stay away from actual battle, although both have proved to be capable fighters in the past.

LANDO is BOROMIR
Cynical, jaded member of the group of heroes. Turns against his friends, but regrets it and redeems himself with heroic acts.

DARTH VADER is SAURON
The big bad guy, feared all over the world, though both were not evil from the start. The heroes mission will bring them into conflict with this villain, which will bring about great self-doubt in the hero.

JABBA THE HUTT is SARUMAN
The diversionary villain. Although not the main threat, he is an opponent that has to be dealt with before the main villain can be taken care of once and for all.

STORMTROOPERS are ORCS
Low level minions of the villain. Sent out in droves, and expendable cannon fodder.

😐

😑 o....m....g!!! i was just gonna do something like this shad....and your almost spot on with your theory as it almost coincided with mine...

here's a sample:

the four hobbits go to bree, and find a grizzly somewhat of a mysterious ranger called aragorn....

ben kenobi, luke and the two droids go to mos eisly(sp), and find a grizzly somewhat mysterious smuggler called han solo

they both take them on as their guide, to where ever they need to go....

but here's where we differ: Sauron is the Emperor....the Witch King is Vader....Vader and Witchy both wear dark, and imposing armor, both are feared....

the two towers and the two death star....the moon of endor, and endor of middle earth....ben kenobi battles vader and is lost, luke yells out in anguish and says nooooooooo!....solo holds him back and takes him inside the falcon....gandalf battles the balrog and is lost, frodo yells out noooooo!...boromir holds him back and takes him away....both frodo and luke suffer a grievous wound....gandalf returns as the white wizard, kenobi returns as a guiding shade.....i could go on, which i probably will cuz i've no life....but i've got to wrack my brains for more input....data is insufficient: there is not enough memory to continue with application. please close one or more windows before continuing...beep, beep....remcheck remcheck....windows will now close due to ie failure, you will lose all saved data...this has been a recording of the national broadcast for emergency....if this had been an actual....beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

Sauron is the Emperor....the Witch King is Vader....Vader and Witchy both wear dark, and imposing armor, both are feared....

Yes, I can go along with your Darth Vader/Witch King parallel. 😄 But while we're at it, let's look: *Darth Vader is third in command, behind Grand Moff Tarkin and Emperor Palpatine.*

So can we say:

Emperor Palpatine = Morgoth
Grand Moff Tarkin = Sauron
Darth Vader = The Witch King

?

Though really, the only similarities between Vader and Witchy is that they both wear dark, intimidating suits. 😐

Let's compare Vader and Sauron again. 😄 Darth Vader was an army general, much like Sauron. He commanded people to do his bidding, much like Sauron. He had his "Sarumans" and "Blue Wizards" in the form of Fleet Admirals and Provincial Governors, much like Sauron. Darth Vader, too, had his "precious" - his lightsaber, a weapon synonymous to Jedi. But without his legion, without his Admirals, without his lightsaber, Darth Vader has no qualms to get his hands dirty and make people's life very, very, very miserable. Just like Sauron, when he was in Numenor, particularly. And I don't buy the whole, "Sauron is just a useless eye imprisoned in his own tower, without his minions, he would be nothing" argument. I think it's categorically wrong. It's like saying strip away the horns and pitchfork and Satan is just a poster boy for goatee beard trimmings. I could throw the same argument at Vader saying he's a battle scarred wreck of a man who was held together with machines including a life support system, but what's the point of that?

And yeah...I'm rambling. Sorry. 😛

So yeah..both Vader/Witch and Vader/Sauron could work I guess. 😛

*OMG, I've been a closet fan for years, people didn't know I knew this stuff. I gotta stop talking about Star Wars* rip1

🥷

I think you both are getting carried away here....!

No LotR can match with the powers of the Dark Side.

^^ 🙄 carried away ??? not at all....they are merely having a discussion in a thread....and that is the point of it yes? to talk about the topic....tehy are merely having fun with it...so back off 😠

W00t w00t!!!!💃

😮 ^^ Sorry...I think I am the one that got carried away 😛

if sauron was a force in the SW galaxy... he would replace the emporor.

if Darth was in middle earth he would die from his fourth degree lava burns.

Har-Har/...

I would have to give my nod to LOTR and not that i dont think Star Wars is great but LOTR has so much more to it than star wars does like the how the story is told i could go on for a long time but thats the short of it and when it comes to visual effects i still have to go with LOTR

Obi-Wan, Yoda, Anakin, Mace Windu, Ki Adi Mundi... you are the strongest!!!!

another thing that lotr has on star wars is the way it gets you on a emotional level like when someone dies. I think star wars are good films but they just dont put you into the world and make you feel for the characters like LOTR thats my opinion.

Damn, yeah, Anakin was just in all 6 movies, and you feel nothing when he passes to the dark side.
Noob... 😂

no thats not what i meant

I know you didn'.
How could somebody do?

but yeah you already knew he was going to turn to the dark side.

Damn, that's how predictable the story is, right? 😱

And Mandos, stop trolling Layden. Even though he's just a newbie, at least his opinion is not limited to, "No LotR can match with the powers of the Dark Side" crap. 🙄

yes...mandos, stop being a troll 😛

I did read the book's. Even though it wasnt written very well, i do agree that it is one of the most engrossing fantasy stories out there. saying the plot of star wars sucked, is just wrong. you may not have liked it, but the concept was turned into a very well thought out story that had much depth and fantastic character development. That is one thing that the LOTR story lacked, Character development. Star wars combined numerous genre's of story telling and styles into a single story. I am not trying to say that star wars is a better story than LOTR, just trying to show that it isnt a crap story.

OK you said LOTR lacked charcter development, what about frodo and his journey through the films wile slowly being consumed by the ring, and how about Aragorn's journey to become the king and Gandalfs with becoming the white wizard and Legolas and Gimli's devolpment to become friends and not raceist against each other? just asking
