its all soo weak
It seems to me that atheism is a club for bashing religion, really thats the only time you guys come together.Really you obviously wouldnt have anything in common with each other cause each of you makes their own rules, if you were following your own version of "common sense" and "Empathy". Cipher said we dont always follow our sense of whats right, and why would an atheist
But whats worse is your all the same religious ethic stealing people we all are, but you claim to hate religion.
so you like to use the ethics and live by them but never acknowledge where they came from. Thats weak.
Really HP, you have the wrong idea about atheism in general. An atheist is one who does not believe in a god, nothing more. An atheist is not necessarily one who has a grudge against religions in general.
While I enjoy a good debate/discussion I don't go looking to bash religious types. But this is a philosophy forum, so expect your life perspective and beliefs to be questioned and criticized by others. It's not a one way street either, I'm quite happy to hear criticism of my beliefs by others (just like now).
We (atheists) are all different. While we share a disbelief in god but that doesn't mean we would necessarily agree on anything else. But that's the nature of the human race. We are all different to a degree. You wouldn't share all the same ideas as other christians either, but your religion brings you together.
You're right, why would an atheist follow his/her sense of what's right? Because they chose to. That is freedom. If I want to kick a kitten into a fan blade there's nothing to stop me but myself. But why would I want to do that? I know it's wrong and I can put myself in the situation of that kitten. A perfect example of the common sense and empathy that you regard as 'weak'. Just because I don't have the threat of eternal damnation dangling over my head doesn't mean I won't do what I believe is right.
You're totally wrong if you think religion is mankind's one and only source of morals and ethics. Sure, most religions teach them but we are capable of learning them by ourselves. As for hating religion, I can't say I hate all aspects of all religions. They do teach ethics and morals, which is great, but there are other aspects of religion I disagree with.

Christian-
1. Professing belief in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.
2. Relating to or derived from Jesus or Jesus's teachings.
3. Manifesting the qualities or spirit of Jesus; Christlike.
4. Relating to or characteristic of Christianity or its adherents.
5. Showing a loving concern for others; humane.
You know someone who goes around saying: I am a C, I am a C-H, I am a C-H-R-I-S-T-I-A-N.... 🙂

My definition is no diffrent, you do those things your a real christian.
The only reason I said "real christian", is because everybodys mad about wars and other hypocritical things that no so real supposed christians have done.
HP> SO that’s your definition of a REAL Christian. Is it exaggerated to say that most people claiming to be Christians do NOT adhere to this definition.
How do I and other non-Christians know that THAT is the real definition?
Oh, and this “5. Showing a loving concern for others; humane,” has ZAP to do with being religious. Aetheists can be that as well.
