A Perfect Circle

the only one i dont like on that album is Fiddle and Drum

The songs just all felt like they had no point. There was nothing too enthralling about any of them, especially when compared to the originals.

Normally, I like to look at albums in a bubble, but with a covers album, you have to compare the songs to the originals. And in most of the cases, the APC versions came up severely lacking.

Still don't have the CD or have heard all the songs...

I have heard Imagine and Passive, though, and I must say that both were quite good.

As much as I admire good song writing, good lyrics alone don't make a good song. That song has nothing, just a bit of old fashioned acapella singing. Besides, I heard those lyrics many years ago on Joni Mitchell's original. It's a thoroughly dull note to end a thoroughly disappointing album.

the song is just maynard singing some beautiful lyrics whats not to like?

It's Maynard singing by numbers. Little trace of his usual finesse and emotion. I've heard those lyrics many times before, and they lose all meaning in APC's limp version, and of course, it's dull. Very dull. They usually save something special for last, I was hoping for something a little more like the Pet/Lullaby/Gravity flow like on 13th Step, not an acapella. It's a filler track, not an album closer.

I was thinking about it yesterday, and I think that Tool/APC averages the most filler tracks per album of any band considered 'great' by many people.

What? Tool make short prelude tracks like Mantra and Parabol, but they are completely vital to the atmosphere of Aenima and Lateralus, and most of them are very good in their own right. Undertow didn't have a single track less 4:50 minutes long, not a filler track in sight, Opiate was an EP, no room for filler.

APC have never made a filler track. Crimes & Lullaby were perfectly timed short haunting prelude tracks. Aside from that, nope. They put 100% into every song, even the not so great ones.

Tool are a great, great band. In years to come, they'll be up there with The Stones, The Beatles and Zeppelin in the rock hall of fame. In many people's eyes, they're already there.

I didn't really care for eMOTIVE at all. I thought they butchered When The Levee Breaks (one of my favorite Zep songs), and I didn't like the Imagine cover either. I thought Mer De Noms was their best album (The Hollow, Rose, Judith, Orestes, 3 Libras, Thinking of You, Brena) since it has so many good songs. I thought The Thirteenth Step was alright, The Noose if my favorite track by far but it certainly had its highlights. But overall APC is pretty good, even thought I like Tool so much better (new album this spring I can't wait!)

I love Lullaby, it's probably one of my favorite APC songs. So very pretty but haunting at the same time.

The ringtone of my cell phone is The Outsider right now 😊

Is Mer De Noms worth buying? I liked the thirteenth step but I haven't bought Mer De Noms yet.. I don't know why.. just always find something I wan't more or I get cheap and try to save my money.

Mer de Noms is DEFINITELY worth buying. It's a very very good album.

As Silver said, yes it is worth buying. It took me a while to get into the album but now I love it. My favorite song is probably 3 Libras.

I've listened to the first half of The Thirteenth Step, liked it so far.

3 Libras is probably my favorite, too...

Yesterday I listened to Thirteenth Step while on my way to work, today I listened to Mer de Noms ✅ both very good.

Yeah I've already DLed 3 libras so I know that one. Very good song. I'll probly buy it next time I'm at best buy. Whenever that is.

I bought Thirteenth Step for 10 bucks at Best Buy. 😱
