I'm not being ignorant. The fact that you would state such shows how dimwitted you truly are. Kid Buu is much weaker than Super Buu. He's just a mindless beast who likes to destroy everything. There's a difference between power & brains. If Goku & Vegeta would've fused Vegito surely would've finished off Buu in no time but instead that's not what happened. SSJ3 Goku struggled to beat Kid Buu, someone Mystic Gohan could've easily annilhated. Your opinion is flawed, and so is your logic.
SSJ3 Gokou stuggled against a Kid Buu who wasn't even trying. Vegetto would have finished off Gohan absorbed Buu easily so what's the point of that? Doesn't mean anything about Gohan since Vegetto is so far above Gohan it's not funny. Gohan may be stronger than SSJ3 Gokou at the time but so was Kid Buu as was SSJ3 Gotenks. We all know Gohan > Gotenks > Gokou but where Kid Buu fits on there is never known because Kid Buu never goes all out except that he's stronger than SSJ3 Gokou and was easily taking it to him as he was SSJ2 Vegeta, and Fat Buu. He could have easily made a blast like that that destroyed Earth and killed everybody.

The only difference is that Gohan would have Future Trunks help against Fat Buu but they wouldn't be powerful enough to help win so they'd still loose. Gokou would still be dead, Gohan would be gone, and Future Trunks wouldn't have anybody to fuse with so Goten and Trunks would still have to fuse. Then by the time Gohan gets back he'd be able to take on Super Buu so Future Trunks would still be useless and then Gotenks Buu would still form and Gohan wouldn't know the fusion dance and would have no time to learn to lower his power and to do the dance before they were beaten. So no nothing would change at all.
They wouldn't be equal. If Mirai Trunks had continued training he would be stronger than Gohan by the Buu saga. If he were to keep training & became a FPSSJ2 & fused with Mystic Gohan, a really powerful wariior could be created. Hell, for all we know Mirai Trunks may have as much hidden potential as Gohan since he's a half Saiyan sa well. If that hidden potential were released & he fused with Mystic Gohan, we'd get a warrior that is extremely powerful.
