Homosexuality: Chosen or Genetic?

Started by Rogue Jedi324 pages

I think that homosexuality is being overanalyzed here. Will the next poster answer this. What do you like on your pizza?

My view right before yours was the total opposite of over anaylsis...

And I like the works, minus maybe olives.

I like meat only, maybe olives. See? different tastes. Just as we have diferent tastes in food, the same could be true for sexual orientation.

I don't think homosexuality should be necessarily analyzed. That could be seen as treating it as strange, and as some kind of faulty practice. Which is a bigoted opinion. To try to analyze it, is to single it out, and to treat it like an illness.

Yeah, or maybe not...... Hence the discussion.

Just stating my theory. I don't think it is something on a genetic level that makes someone homosexual. My whole family is pretty straight laced, go by the book christians. Except for my cousin, who is Gay. With two straight parents, and I mean REALLY straight parents, where does the genetic theory come into play?

I don't believe it's genetic..... I used to think it might have been but it actually just doesn't make sense, I don't think it's a choice either, at least not a conscious one.

Some here have argued that it might be genetic.

As far as the decision not being a sub conscious one, neither are most decisions we make about what we like and/or prefer. I hate the color yellow. Why? Dunno.

To be honest, I really couldn't give a flying **** why people are gay. It really doesn't effect me.

Really?

I think it's being oversimplified.

How so?

There is some kind of genetic component to at least some "types" of homosexuality, else the twin study data would be much different.

sorry, not buying into the genetic factor.

Twins share more than genes. There's environment, treatment and parental opinion and guidance for starters.

so, what do you guys think it means to say that a behaviour has a genetic root?

EDIT: Part 2: What evidence would convince you that homosexual behaviour can be genetic in origin?

I would argue that it is only part genetic. Behaviours in my view are shaped by a combination of environment and genes.

Evidence that would convince me to believe that homosexual behaviour is of entirely genetic origin would be virtually impossible to gain. It would be unethical, as to prove it they'd have to alter the genes of an unborn baby and observe it throughout its life.

It's not genetic as in hereditary. It's how the brain is wired as it develops in utero

When I wrote this thread 3 years ago I was kinda stupid. So the choices are moot, really.

yes it does. That means that somewhere along the genetic line someone in the family had blond hair.
