I’m reading this book at the moment called The Gay Agenda, and it addresses (as you might be able to guess from the title) the issues of Christian/homosexuality beliefs. The book is written by a Christian minister and so is from a Christian viewpoint.
Here’s a few paragraphs that interested me – looking at homosexuality from this guy’s Christian perspective. 😛
‘So, before we go any further, let’s remind ourselves of one clear and unalterable fact: the Bible gives absolutely no sanction to homosexuality. None. Never does God approve of it. Never does He endorse it. Never does He smile at it.
Nevertheless, God loves the Friedrich-Pauls (who was arrested and castrated during Hitler’s reign), and Matthew Shepards (a gay university student who was beaten to death in Wyoming … . . . and don’t ask me where the heck that is because I have no idea) of this world. He loves all of us, even though all of us are broken and sinful.
I firmly believe it is possible to stand on God’s truth at the same time that we love broken and sinful people. I believe there is a way to practice that which God wants us to practice. I believe, in other words, that there is a way we can love the sinner even as we oppose the sin.’
~~~~~~~~
‘Because God loves us, He delights to walk into the lives of young girls who have determined that they are of a lesbian life-style. He loves to walk into the life of a young boy who determines that he is of a gay lifestyle. He loves to walk in and turn things around. He loves to do what looks humanly impossible. He loves to do what is best for us – and that includes directing us away from a homosexual lifestyle.’
~~~~~~~
‘God loves all people; this I do know. He offers His unconditional love to each one of us, regardless of our sinful choices, even the sin of homosexuality. Still, although God unconditionally loves us, that does not give us the right to disobey His commands and live however we please.’
~~~~~~~
‘In other words, if marriage is redefined to include two men in love, on what possible principled grounds can it be denied to three men in love?
Charles Krauthammer, “When John and Jim Say ‘I Do.’” Time Magazine (July 22, 1996)
He poses a valid question. We can take it another step. What could eventually prevent a person from marrying, say, an animal? Or an inanimate object?’
Got any views on any of those ideas anyone? In particular the last one?
All the more reason to dislike "Him".
Absolutely, I'll run right out and get...broken...just like they did.
I don't need you to love me, I just need you to leave me alone.
As soon as "His" commandments mean something to me, I'll agree. And since it's not law yet, I don't even have to pretend to care.
Look, I met John and Jim, they're whores. I'm not suprised those bitches want to marry that damn dog!
This is NOT a valid question. it is a STUPID one. There is a blatant difference between two people of the same sex getting married and a person marrying a dog or a broom.
The two people of the same sex can communicate and speak to one another. They can BOTH give their consent to be married. This is not possible for a person and an animal, seeing as the animal can't give it's consent to be married. Also, it is dangerous for animals and men to be married and have sexual intercourse, animals have many strange diseases and bacteria that they are resistant too that humans are not, interbestial marriage would produce many many new health problems and diseases for humanity. Where as homosexual marriage causes no problems of any kind.
As for someone marrying an inanimate object, it's not alive, thus it can't love or communicat or feel anything, thus it can't be married. That minister must be a damn retard, as is anyone who uses the analogy of "gay marriage is paving the way for interbestial marriage and blah blah". It's bullshit that is ignorant, unfounded and nothing but blind speculation.
Nice slippery slope arguement. 🙄
There is no relationship between plural relationships and same-sex relationships; Therefore, the exclusion of one is not dependent on the exclusion of the other. Modifying the definition of marriage to include same-sex partnerships affects only which sexes can be married, not the number of people who can be married, etc.
wow! that was a very interesting 53 pages!! well as most of you know, people can't really help who they fall in love with and who they're not attractive to etc. so its the same for gay people. they can't help who they like or fall for. i believe that everyone has the right to marry and have a relationship with anyone they want - any sex. i think its a little wrong with the animal because it has dieses etc and well yea they can't really object or anything.
there is right now an act going through my country trying to let gay people marry and have the same rights as everyone else. most people oppose this idea but i don't. why can't people who like the same sex have the same responsibiltys and provaledges as everyone else. the only diffference is that they like the same sex. god never said that they couldn't be together or say that they can. I mean people believe that if they believe in god, but not everyone does.
I think it should be up to the people who have these feelings. This law is telling people that they have the same right as everyone else, and i think that they deserve that. they're the same as us in every way possible except one. They choose a diffferent path in love, and didn't follow the other 90 % of the world
Okay, I'll be less sarcastic and dismissive.
Apparently the religious right has figured it out. Us gays HAVE been working on our agenda. Hopefully the gay mafia knows that they've been found out. "The Gay Agenda"...come on. All we want now is what we've always wanted, to be treated equally and respected as fellow human beings. There are a lot of people out there(on this page as a matter of fact) that have no problem with this. I have lots of straight friends who think of me as just another human being. When they look at me, they see David, not gay David.
The "Christian viewpoint" is almost as absurd as the "gay agenda".
This single statement is the basis of the "christian viewpoint" and illustrates why this point of view is so ridiculous. God also never endorses the eating of red meat on friday, but people do it today none the less.
This almost seems like condoning what happened to them. It's like the guy is saying "silly humans, judgement is for god!" It's okay to think they deserve this kind of treatment, but don't actually do it yourself. Let god reign fire down upon them.
Yeah, except I didn't ask for him to walk into my life and direct me away from anything. If someone else did, fine. Let them believe that gods love has "healed" them of this terrible illness. Me, on the other hand, I like being gay. I like guys, I think they're hot. I have a boyfriend whom I love very much. God's assistance in matters of my sexual "preference"(I hate this term) is not needed or requested. As a member of this society, I deserve the right to be protected by the law, just as the former gay who god has saved from himself.
..no, "this" he guesses at. This is really just saying that, in the end, we can do whatever we want, but that there will be a reckoning. Play now, pay later. Sure!, he has unconditional love for all of us, and his heart will ache as he watches me burn in hell for all eternity because I had sex with another human being. It's bullshit.
I have a feeling that this is going to be the default argument of anyone from the "christian viewpoint". I find it personally offensive to think that the vast majority of people are going to run out and start marrying goats or desk phones or pictures in a magazine. It's a scare tactic used to frighten people out there that can't or won't think for themselves. In fact, in the future when gay marriage is legal, I can see some dumb ass being used as a puppet by the religious right and starting some court movement to legalize marriage to an animal based on the gay marriage act....just to prove a point. The entire notion is ricockulous...and so is anyone who believes it. That, IMO, is a fact. I'm not pointing my finger at anyone and saying they're an idiot. It's just a general statement. Anyone who thinks that gay marriage will open the doors to marriage between human and animal, or human and an inanimate object, is an idiot who has fallen prey to the "christian agenda".
The Gay… Agenda?
😆
Ah, there it is… Gays are in there with the communist, Marxists, free-masons, New World Order.. ehrm… aliens from outer space… and… YES!… environmentalists…
Don’t you guys (and girls) just love it when extremists Christians monopolise the truth and claims to know who their God loves and does not love?
And here homosexual marraiges are likened to marrying animals and inanimate objects???
Strange, how these extremists, who claim HUMANS are special in their God’s eyes, now do not mean ALL humans…
I bet the author is pheodophile. Actually I KNOW he is… Why? Because I hear voices in my head…
(Nods slowly, bangs head against wall, and reminds self to promote separation of church and state to her dying day).
