Simple Plan

No, I'm not one of their groupies. They were just in my town for a concert that I didn't get to go to, and we ended up seeing them at a club. My friend and I hung out with them for the rest of the night...we didn't have sex with them. I am just saying...personality wise...they are really great guys that shouldn't be criticized for trying to make a living.

This is seriously pathetic, I know I'm going to get yelled at but who cares. The guys of Simple Plan are really great guys. I've actually met them and had the chance to hang out with them. You shouldn't be judging and criticizing them just because of their music. Some of you may THINK they're posers...but they don't refer to themselves as punk. Everybody else puts them in it and pop and everyone gets into a huge ass fight about it. Who cares what group it's in? They are making music so that MAYBE they can entertain somebody. You can't sit their and degrade them because of the image that the press has made for them. It's not their fault that the paparazzi like f*cking up peoples lives. I think they're music is awesome and something that people can relate to. Others may have different opinions and that's great! You just don't have to be so negative about it, they are human beings with feelings too. I for one would not like to be internationally insulted. I don't care if people protest to what I think...everybody will always have unique opinions...just do some GOOD insulting. Come up with some good things to complain about, all I hear is little illegitimate things about Simple Plan and it's starting to really get on my nerves. They are putting themselves out there and trying to make something of themselves. You at least have to give them kudos for their efforts. I'm sorry if I offended anybody...just stating my opinion like everyone else has on this message board.
😮‍💨 Cristy 😮‍💨

😐We are making legitimate points.
1. They're music sucks.
2. They suck.
3. They need to sing (if they must) about stuff other than how their life sucks and how they're always getting cheated on. (Maybe its cause of below)
4. They need to grow some balls and move the **** on.

If those arent legitimate, then they still suck ass.

yeah, i understand that "Perfect" song came from an album made a couple of years ago. then when i heard they had a new album i thought "ok, maybe they've grown up and made something i might think about listening to." but no. they release the same shit that wallows in its own pathetic self pity. i dont care how nice they are and if they are amazing human beings, thats all well and good, but when they start polluting the airwaves with there crappy music, it dosn't matter. they need to stop playing there horrible music and grow up

yawn yawn

Ok Simple Plan are a horribal band end of story

They're in their early twenties...what the hell do you expect? All they've been doing since they were young was making music in a band. I don't think that they have gone into that 'grown-up' stage yet. They are like Blink-182, Good Charlotte, Billy Talent, Yellowcard, etc. They do sing about stuff other than how life sucks. Obviously you do not listen to the lyrics. Some of them are about life sucking major ass...but that's because they are trying to connect with the teenage peoples out in the world. I for one, can relate to many songs from Simple Plan. They have songs about dealing with the death of someone you cared about, there's another about suicide, another one about how all of society is acting 'crazy'. They do have good songs, you just don't realize it. I notice that I am against the odds with three or four guys ganging up on me. But I don't care, everyone will have their own opinion and that's how it is and always will be. Dwarfdude: The reasons you stated are sure as hell NOT constructive criticism. I understand that you think Simple Plan sucks and I don't care what you think...because I just don't care. I just want to know why you think that way. I don't understand why so many people HATE Simple Plan. And please no one say...they suck hairy nuts or any of that ordinary bull shit. Come up with something that is substancial and believable to why you don't like them. I'm not going to argue...well maybe a little...but I just want to see inside the minds of all you Simple Plan haters!!! Thanks a bunch!

I for one can come up with a list of reasons for not liking every band I don't like 👆

1. Their music is generally boring. Their songs all sound the same to me.
2. The lead singer has an annoying, nasal voice.
3. They are attention whores--maybe this isn't a legitimate reason for not liking their music, but it does turn me off the group in general.
4. They are sub-par lyricists. I've met teenagers who could write better than them.
5. The part about society being "crazy" is only part of the current "political" trend, IMO.
6. For a group who have supposedly been playing since they were young, they certainly have not made much progress as musicians.

not a big Avril fan myself - and i did hear when she covered that SOAD song "chop suey" and it was horrible!!-- but if you were a singer -- the thing is you would probably cover a Tool song or whoever and butcher it as well... and then we could all sit here and make fun of you!

No, if I was a singer, I wouldn't cover Tool at all. Nor would I cover SOAD, APC, Bad Religion, Faith No More and a number of other groups. Or, if I did, I wouldn't try to sound like the guys who sang the songs originally. Some vocalists are just too damn good to have their sound duplicated by other people. Serj Tankian is one such vocalist. His style only works with his own voice, and sure as hell not a female voice. (not that I have anything against female singers...) Thing about covers is, you should NEVER try to sound like the original group. One of two things will happen--you'll make an ass of yourself like Avril did, or you'll sound just like them but people won't care because it's just as easy to listen to the band who wrote the song.

😐 I just dont like Simple Plan.

1- There may be many reasons their songs all sound the same. You don't listen or don't have a music type ear thingy. I for one love the guitar tabs and drumb beats they come up with...but that's just me. I can understand if their songs sound the same to you.
2- It really depends what song you listen to. All singers will have difficulty singing certain songs. I, and many people that I know, think he has an awesome voice. But then again, that might be the fact that I'm Canadian...haha.
3- How are they attention whores?
4-Give me an example on how they are sub-par lyricists.
5-You obviously haven't listened to that song before. It's about everybody as a whole in our society. Different things that are going on in our very own cities and neighborhoods that are senseless. I tihnk it is a very meaningful song that has a lot of truth behind it.
6- You or I certainly aren't people to say if they've made progress or not. I think they have...but that's just my opinion. If you listen to their first album, then their second. You can tell the difference. Even if you don't notice it, I did, their songs are a bit more mature than their first album. So, they ARE maturing into adults...if that's believable...lol.
Sorry if I seem whiney or crabby or anything, and I'm sorry if I offended any Canadians with that 'Canada' quip I made.
😮‍💨 Cristy 😮‍💨

1- Oh, but I do have a music ear type thingy. Music is half my life. I play one instrument or another once or twice a day, and when I'm not at school or playing music, I'm listening to it. Their music still sounds relatively the same. It's not that I truly can't tell the difference, just that if you listen to one of their albums, the songs start to blend into a meaningless soundalike sludge...

2- It's not that he has difficulty singing songs, it's that he's not singing the way any good teacher will tell you to. He is singing up in his nose, rather than using the capacity of his lungs. It is annoying. 👆

3- Have you seen pictures of them before? Have you noticed how you can tell from looking at the pictures they seem to be begging for attention?

4- For one thing, they have incredibly diverse vocabularies.[/sarcasm]

Seriously, just read the lyrics to a Simple Plan song:

"Crazy"

Tell me what's wrong with society
When everywhere I look, I see
Young girls dying to be on TV
They won't stop till they've reached their dreams

Diet pills, surgery
Photoshopped pictures in magazines
Telling them how they should be
It doesn't make sense to me

Is everybody going crazy?
Is anybody gonna save me?
Can anybody tell me what's going on?
Tell me what's going on?
If you open your eyes
You'll see that something is wrong

I guess things are not how they used to be
There's no more normal families
Parents act like enemies
Making kids feel like it's World War III

No one cares, no one's there
I guess we're all just too damn busy
And money's our first priority
It doesn't make sense to me

Is everybody going crazy?
Is anybody gonna save me?
Can anybody tell me what's going on?
Tell me what's going on?
If you open your eyes
You'll see that something is wrong

Is everybody going crazy?
Is everybody going crazy?

Tell me what's wrong with society
When everywhere I look I see
Rich guys driving big SUVs
While kids are starving in the streets

No one cares
No one likes to share
I guess life's unfair

Is everybody going crazy?
Is anybody gonna save me?
Can anybody tell me what's going on?
Tell me what's going on?
If you open your eyes
You'll see that something, something is wrong

Now read the lyrics to a song by a different band. Notably they are about similar subjects in the first place.

Bad Religion- "Sorrow"

Father can you hear me?
How have I let you down?
I curse the day that I was born
and all the sorrow in this world

Let me take you to the herding ground
where all good men are trampled down
Just to settle a bet that could not be won
between a prideful father and his son

Will you guide me now for I can't see a reason
for the suffering and this long misery
What if every living soul could be upright and strong?
Well then I do imagine

There will be (sorrow)
Yeah there will be (sorrow)
And there will be sorrow no more

When all soldiers lay their weapons down
or when all kings and all queens relinquish their crowns
Or when the only true messiah rescues us
from ourselves it's easy to imagine

There will be (sorrow)
Yeah there will be (sorrow)
And there will be sorrow no more

Do I even have to tell you how much better the Bad Religion lyrics were? The song was about basically the same thing, but it was infinitely more poetic, thoughtful, and introspective.

5- I have. My friend is (unfortunately) a huge Simple Plan fan and I was forced to listen to the entire album several times over on a road trip. It's not that it's a bad or meaningless song, I just don't think they really care. I think they're only talking about it in the first place because it is, as I said before, the current trend to be all "socially conscious." The two songs I just posted are a good example. Bad Religion are a band that have been talking about this stuff for years, since they were formed in the early 80's. They quite obviously care and aren't just saying this shit to get attention, which isn't so apparent in the case of Simple Plan.

6- But I am--I know how basic and easy the music they play is. If they had made significant progress as musicians, they would be playing more complicated songs.

Wow, this has been lots of fun! Thanks a bunch for arguing with me!!!
1- It's good to know that you play instruments...so do I and I can clearly hear the differences between the songs. It might be because I'm a freak...but who knows, right? lol.
2- Have you ever watched him while he sings? You can clearly see that he is using his diaphraghm(sp?),neck muscles and his lungs. He might be using his nose, however that works, a little bit. You can have difficulty with songs. Singing isn't much different from playing an instrument. Some people just have difficulty with certain songs, and Pierre does have difficulty with some songs. BUT he still has a good voice if you used the right way.
3- Have I seen pictures of them? YEAH! lol. What did you expect from them? Their still young adults. How many young guys do you know that aren't immature at times? I know very few, but they are just showing their personalities and making dumb faces. (I hope that's what you meant by their pictures. Cause in most of the ones I've seen their doing stupid things or making weird ass faces) I think it's actually sort of funny, but that's just my immature mind thinking!
4- Of course they'll have diverse vocabularies!!! Bad Religion has been going at this type of thing since before the guys in Simple Plan were born!!! Simple Plan can be a bit amatuer at times, but eventually they'll get a whole lot better and begin to mature with a more 'diverse' vocabulary. When that day comes, I'll be so thrilled!!!!!
5- I was just using as an example, because someone had said that Simple Plan only does songs about bf's and gf's cheating and all that crap. They are starting to mature and will eventually grow out of their 'teenage' so to speak, lyrical content. You really can't compare Simple Plan to a band from the 80's, well you can, but it's unethical. Simple Plan is formed of, basically kids that have some growing up to do, you can't just compare them to a band who has had almost two decades of more practice than them while they're still 'amatuers'.
6- More complicated songs? Do you or have you ever played electric guitar or acoustic? They are not the easiest instruments to play. Some of their music is pretty complicated and they have made progress. The electric played in the second album is a lot more catchy and complicated than the first album, but that is coming from a Simple Plan freak that really listens to their music.
Anyways, it's been nice arguing with you, hopefully you can argue back. I'm pretty sure you'll come up with some stuff!
😮‍💨 Cristy 😮‍💨

i watched their video clip for "Welcolm to my life" again today. it sums up the band quite well. Ok, singer off on a tall tower thing all alone (translation = i'm all alone i'm so sad, feel bad for me, wa wa wa), band blocking off road holding up traffic (tans. = were little attention seekers, look at how grownd up we are) another shot of singer of tower (trans. = wow, i'm so alone, like, no one else has been where i am and i'm a special indervidual.....wa wa wa) some angry little snot nose with a ipod in the family mini van gets all upset and slams the door and runs towards the band (trans. = i'm a prissy little weiner who is all upset because i only got a 20 gig ipod and i wanted a 40 gig photo one, i'm so upset, life sucks so bad, no one has ever been so worse off as me.....wa wa wa) people standing infront of band (trans. = look how deep we are, by stopping these people from getting to wherever the hell they were heading and singing a nasaly song to them, we've shown them just how hard our lives are, even though any (inteligent) crowd in that situation i.e the band and no bodyguards, would throw their scrawny asses off the bridge, then drop their equipment on them and drive off) ending shot of singer on the tower again (trans. i'm still all alone, and even flogging this god awful song has not brought anyone close to me, i'm so unique.....wa wa wa) end of song.

1- Like I said... I CAN tell the difference between their songs, but they all sound so similar that once you've heard one song, you've heard them all because you're not going to hear anything new in almost all their music.

2- It doesn't matter what it looks like... He is singing up in his nose and hence is not using the full capacity of his lungs. Besides, it doesn't really matter what he's actually doing--it sounds like crap.

3- I'm 17. I've thought it was annoying since they first formed.

4- But see, Bad Religion have put the same amount of effort into this their whole careers. They have always been great musicians. Greg Graffin's lyrics have gotten steadily better over the years, but they were great to begin with. And don't give me any of that "they're too young to use big words" crap. If they went to high school, they took english classes, in which case they were learning those long words. They're just too damn lazy to use them. That or they weren't paying attention in class. But my point is, anybody can use long words. I've heard 12 year olds say longer words than the boys from Simple Plan.

5- As I said before, Bad Religion's music has ALWAYS been excellent. They put in the same effort when they first formed as they do now. Alright, a better example--the boys from Incubus are also in their early 20's. When they became famous, they were all of 17 years old. They have progressed a ton since then, but their music was still good. As musicians, they were much better at 17 than Simple Plan are now. It's not impossible to be young and good at music.

If Simple Plan were 11 and 12 years old, that would be a valid reason for their over-simplified lyrics. But they're not. They're adults. They are capable of using a thesaurus. And being famous, they should be better lyricists in the first place.

6- Yes, I have and I do. In fact one of the annoying poses I spoke of earlier was of their guitarist making a stupid face in the Fender catalog. Anyways... If they've been playing their instruments since they were "young," I'll assume that means 12 or 13 years old. Even if it's older, they've been playing for some years now. Playing a hard instrument is not an excuse for being crappy at it. I know a kid who plays the cello (IMO even harder than guitar), is 15 years old, and is one of the best musicians under 20 in the state. How? He has a good work ethic, he wants to progress, and he practices every day. If he were a guitarist, he'd be playing Jimmy Page solos by now. If Simple Plan cared enough about their music, they could be in the same place. In fact, "in a perfect world" (no pun intended 😉) nobody would be a famous musician until they were really grat at their instrument.

Darth Raven I cant beliee you wrote soooo mcuh crap -

I cant be bothered to read anything from you anyways

and Bad Religion is like Simple Plans idol

I'm not the only one who typed a lot 🙄

For good reason, since without Bad Religion, none of the shitty pop rock bands would even exist. So what though? The guys from Linkin Park are good friends with Korn. Chino Moreno from Deftones listens to Justin Timberlake. What's your point? Just because a person listens to a certain band or artist doesn't mean they sound like them. Simple Plan have good taste in music. Simple Plan themselves, however, are bad music 😐

PIERRE SOUNDS LIKE LARRY THE CUCUMBER

well they couldn' t live up to their idol if they released a million albums. and with the music they play (i.e. method guitar) its not all that amazingly hard to learn the few simple chords they employ in their music.

oh. my. god. 😐

How does anybody listen to Justin Timberlake
