So, what’s happening with the “Great Western Empire?”
This far the answers have been “something to do with human rights organisations, free love and no respect for authorities”, or “people who whine”… or… It’d probably a mix of all of this.
Ush> Why is Lil’ Bitchiness opinion “naive waffle”? I’d like to know.
All> If we look at history, “empires” have risen and fallen throughout the ages. Now, I don’t know much about socio-economics, but “empires” can only grow as along as they can expand in one way or another, be it conquest or market-shares or what have you.
The world we’ve grown up in, you and me, may’ve changed some in the time we’ve been here, but when you look around – HOW much? Maybe we just THINK that the way geography is, or culture is something “natural” or “has-always-been”.
As long as there is a massive gap between rich and poor that’ll create an imbalance an conflicts. So here we are – You and I can afford computers and electricity. We may not view ourselves as rich, but compared to a vast number of people on this planet we are. Compared to billionaires in our own countries we’re not. Do you always by ecologically-grown food (to protect the environment), always take public transportation and turn off the lights and buy those save-energy light-bulbs (to reduce CO2), and expensive made-in-your-country goods (to prevent child-labour, horrible working conditions in the 3rd world, and help the labour-market in your own country)?
No?
Well, neither do I.
I think we’re in a transition-phase. Yes, once the working-class or “peasants” bowed to authority and the aristocracy because culture was like that. Is it SO bad to not simply accept authority without question? To accept an answer like “because it’s always been so”?
Yes, once sex was a big no-no word, and fine women would faint at the sight of red-wine stains on a tablecloth so full were they of sexual frustration. Yeah, society IS getting “over-pornographied”, but isn’t that to be expected after centuries that treated sex like it was something the Devil had invented? Once white people “naturally” viewed blacks as inferior, because it suited the labour-market (I mean, heck, racism as such wasn’t even invented until some time in the 18th century I think).
So Jedi Princess and her opening post is a symptom I gather. Of a changing world. Globalisation I think it’s called.
