I'm certain with what movie companies have at their disposal, they could find someone that could modernize it, where it would look like real chain-mail, but it'd be lighter and versatile.

Besides, if Tina Turner could deal 80+lbs of chainmail in Mad Max 3, this guy can deal with less.

It's just concept art, and I'm not sure it's legitimate. It looks like someone took part of the image we saw two months ago, and just guessed what the lower half of his outfit looked like. His head is clearly photoshopped onto that; he's not wearing that costume.

Eh, yeah those pics look crappy, but the overall costume design doesn't. I wouldn't mind if they used that as the basis for the over all costume.

They have his special chain mail from the comics on his upper body. It should be on the legs as well. The boots are OK, I guess.

It's like they are trying to merge the look of Classic/616 Thor & Ultimate Thor. And Chris Hemsworth says there is a helmet.

Marvel has a history of combining old world with tech in it's Thor series. The look has varied under different artists like Jack Kirby & Walt Simonson. Nowadays, Asgard looks Minas Tirth after a futuristic face-lift.
I think they want to make the 'godhood' question of Thor vague, as they did in The Ultimates for awhile, so to fully integrate him with the other Avengers.

The reason he looks like Nova to me is because he's got the same kind of armor configuration. Normal pants with dark segmented torso and foot armor. It's all pretty spacey.
