no I like the game I'm just fed up with comments that its better then halo... Satsujin already said he doesn't care what other websites said about the MC and SA battle...though maybe when he saw many people rate halo higher than metroid, he might get the picture. IGN gave it higher then metroid prime, and I believe thats compiled by gamers not magazines...Metroid has been out of ages and it still doesn't have the fan advantage over halo. Don't get me wrong theres loads of fans of metroid but you would of though a series with that many games would have more fans then halo.
I'm not at all new to games... I own loads of old consoles... first game I ever played was on a C64. I just don't talk about my great "heritage" as theres no point discussing games so dated no one would of even heard of them.
Oh your right smasandian, but which game won game of the year? did metroid? Halo2 won loads of G.O.Y awards!
Gamespy gave halo2 game of the year, Over HL2, MPE, GTA SA, Ninja G and burnout3. All good games."Well, I guess the majority of videogame publications is wrong then, considering Metroid Prime is rated the 3rd best game of all time. While Halo is rated 6th. Halo 2 is rated 10th."
by your comment I could conclude that people love the halo series while wheres MPE in the chart??? outside of the top 10, both halo games in the top 10.
Im not doubting Halo has more fans out there, but that would change if Halo becomes a piece of crap. But the amount of fans a franchise has does not mean about the quality of the game. I personally really dont like Halo, and I think its highly overrated. Gamespy also feels the same way.
Its true that both Halo's are in the top ten, but the fact remains, they didnt beat out Metroid Prime, no matter how many games they are, it still is better than Halo's. They're not wrong because its about the individual game and not the franchise. Its thats true, then why dont we just add all the other Metriod games.

GameSpy's 2004 Top 10 Games of the Year
#1 - Halo 2 (Xbox)
Will: The most anticipated Xbox game of the year (and perhaps all-time) didn't disappoint, offering up a single-player game that had a well-written, engrossing story, as well as a multiplayer mode that finally took the game onto Xbox Live. All of the new gameplay tweaks were perfectly implemented, especially the vehicle jacking and the badass dual-wielding. Just about everyone has their favorite combinations of guns, but for me there's nothing more beautiful than a plasma rifle rapidly unloading next to the human pistol, the perfect mixture of speed and power.
The overhauled graphics engine gives everything a shiny yet realistic sheen, thanks to some impressive bump-mapping techniques. The game doesn't only look great, though, it also sounds simply phenomenal, featuring some of the best (and most useful) directional sound effects ever seen on a console. If there was ever a reason to splurge on a 5.1 surround system, this is it. In a year that brought us a slew of so-called "Halo Killers," the only game that could trump the original is this stellar sequel.
Justin: Few games come tailor-made for success like Halo 2, but it still surprised me with how damn good it ended up being. Once again Bungie innovates in several ways -- new vehicles, dual-wielding, the deadly melee weapon -- that are sure to be poorly ripped off by lesser games for years to come.
Single-player was enough to keep me busy and satisfied, but battling on Xbox Live is the closest thing a console game has come to online perfection. Matchmaking keeps you from being overwhelmed by unfair competition, the maps were meticulously thought out, and the depth of the statistics will please any anal number cruncher like myself. I can't believe how well the headset works. I've spent countless minutes just talking to friends between matches.
Halo 2 is the kind of game that not only brings accolades to itself, but elevates its platform. It's proven to be the game to own -- thus making Xbox, Xbox Live, and its headset things that no self-respecting gamer would be without.
Sal: On the surface, Halo 2 might seem extremely similar to its predecessor, but it's clear that Bungie thought long and hard about subtle changes it wanted to make for the sequel and then fired on all cylinders. Gone are the long stretches of carbon-copy that seemed like they'd never end; Halo 2 clips along at a much better pace and dual-wielding was much more than just a gimmick -- it added just as much strategy to the game as the first game's two-weapon limit. The actual combat is just awesome: unlike most developers, Bungie doesn't cheat with sneak attacks or enemies that appear out of nowhere; it's a fair fight from start to finish, and some of the smartest combat I've ever seen in an FPS.
Bungie managed to get the multiplayer right as well. I'm primarily a PC gamer, and the idea of playing split-screen just doesn't work for me. The Xbox Live implementation is outstanding, and really the way it should have been from the start. Tons of modes, clans, stats, voice chat -- it's all here. My only question now, "Where's Halo 3?"
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is #9.

Wait, no I don't.
Because from YOUR P.O.V., it appears that every FPS game ever made would also be classified as "an Action Adventure game put in a first person perspective". Think about it.

There you go.
Yes, it did. So did HL2, WoW, and others. You say it has won game of the year, but your just stating Gamespy, not others. I think overall scores are more important than Game of The Years.
There is also quite a number of publications or rants that say Halo 2 is shit.
And when does how much sales a game equals the quality of a game?
If thats true, then The Sims would be the best game of all time, with Myst coming up after it.
