I was under the impression that you've been a citizen of the UK for most of your life. So I hope you can draw you own conclussion as to why I didn't understand what you meant by "live through 2 wars"

My Mom and Dad had that experience of war. Originally my family comes from Central America. And during the late 70's and early 80's he was involved in political campaigns agaisn't the new government that it was about to take over. He was label as member of a group call FMLN and he was never involved with those people. So he was targeted as anti-democratic rebel. He had to fled to the US along with some other people that were accuse of helping death squads in the urban cities. My dad never supported the FMLN. He was very supportive of the the Bishop Romero who was also agaisn't the new government. Unfortunally Bishop Romero was assasinated and anyone involved was label as member of the deaths squads.
My dad arrive here in the US and after a year he had my mom (which had to change her last name to avoid being link to my dad) come to the US illegaly. She came with my older brother and sister and then I was born. If they would had stay back in Central America mostly likely they would have been put in trial and God knows what they would have done to him.
I personally somewhat understand what it is to fled from a hostile nation. But I'm also quite grateful that the US Governement help my dad get into the country. It wasn't easy for him to get a visa. Since Hispanics are more likely migrate here than anywhere in the world.
I'm just sharing these because it kinda makes me feel proud for my dad making the right choices. Also is not to win sympathy but at least so that some of you a little more about me. That's why I sometimes seen like I'm supporting the US. But that doesn't mean I will support them all the time.
