"Hell yes I'm scared. Have you ever flown to the moon? That's about the equivilant here...Maybe I should be going...Watch a couple playoff tapes from last year. That's the only time they really play..."
Chris stood up and shook Val's hand(many people still do this in small, northern towns), said his plesentries and left.
Mike smiles at Janette. "You're not bad. There are a few of my friends back home that would kill to be able to surf like you, much less look good doing it." he hoped he hadn't gone to far with the compliments, but oh well. She was good, and she was pretty for a younger girl. Mike turned to wait for a new set to roll in.
"She's only better if you think she is. You can be just as good. You've thrown up a mental block, telling yourself that you can only be so good. Don't let fear, or anything hold your skill back. You could be awesome, just have a fun time, experament with the wave. And I gave up on comparing girls a long time ago. I figure if all I'm going to do is look, then I should move out of the way and let guys like Val take care of them. As you can tell, I'm a bit shy around most people." Mike stopped, thinking of how stupid she must think he was. "But you are pretty." He spots a wave and catches a nice 10 footer and cuts left, getting air off the crest, and then lands back on the wave, riding the pipe a while before bailing out.
Laughs again. "Oh, ok, i see. And you're right, no cheer leaders for me. And i'm not, yeah, no, don't ride that way." Thinks for a minute. "I don't really know. A girl that can do this everyday, and have fun, and cheat death with me, but a lover at the same time. Really cute, but down to earth. I don't know. Maybe my Aussi way of thinking is kinda strange."
