Sense of Humour

Actually Im going to disagree complitely.

Racist jokes are not funny - they are a perfect reflection of one 'race' apperant supiriority over another. Thats how they work - same goes for gay jokes or any other discriminative types that are so called humour.

When and if I tell a joke that "belittles" a woman, I am not saying it because I think men are superior to women.. I have nothing but admiration for women. I am saying it because when I heard/read it, I laughed.

When and if I tell a Jewish joke, I am not saying it because I am anti-anti-semitism.. I have respect for the Jewish community and their ability to live with a past of prosecution. I am saying it because when I heard it I laughed.

They are funny... and so are French jokes. And I am french.

Maybe I am wrong is saying that people who are offended when they hear racist jokes are too uptight. But, I still think it is true.

Then I'm under the assumption some of you have never laugh or seen South Park, In living Color, Def Comedy Jam, Blue Collar TV, The Original Kings of Comedy, Culture Clash.

And like SG said there is difference between telling a joke and insulting a person's race.

But look at it from this perspective - why are you finding it funny? Is it because the jokes are making you believe that the stereotype is true?

I've only seen South Park from that list. And from what I've seen they don't have racist jokes.

And what is the differance in making a joke about a jew to insulting him?

South Park had an episode call "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride". Shows like Def Comedy Jam and Culture Clash feature African Americans and Hispanics plus Anglos comedians making jokes about their own culture.

I think racist joked can be witty, which is the essence of humor. Of course they're offensive, but I don't think "offensive" and "amusing" are mutually exclusive.

Simpsons make me laugh every time 😛

I guess it comes down the to reasons people find race jokes funny. If its purely just for the difference between cultures, thats understandable.

But you also get people who manifest their hatred and malice towards another race through these so-called jokes.

I'm a little curious: do the people who get upset over racist jokes also get upset over, for example, lawyer jokes? If not, what's the difference?

How many more times are you going to tell us that gay jokes are funny? I mean, queer=funny.

That's how I see it. That's why I said "certain" jokes. And also is about telling the difference between a comedian and a bigot.

It was only an example....nothing more.

Because you don't have to be a certain race to be a lawyer. Black=race, lawyer=profession. It's like saying all black people are whores or something. The practice of law lends itself to being sneaky and finding loop holes. Being asian doesn't have to mean you're sneaky.

Weight, gender, religion, ...

I understand. And queer still equals funny. By the way Orson Wells is the man!

I'm glad we are getting on the same page Capt.

lol! That's not Orson in my siggy. That's Peter Lorre but they do kinda look the same. 😄

Racist and sexists jokes are by far the funniest.

It's people who can't look at your own race or another race and enjoy a laugh who have the problem, not the people telling the joke.

If you can't enjoy a good joke just because the content uses vulgar terms or racial slurs...then you're just too uptight and need to relax...IN GENERAL.

South Park and other quality offensive jokes are great. I also love a good racially based joke.

South Park is full of Racial and ethnic jokes and stereotypes - They regularly make fun of blacks, mexicans and of course, Jews. Just because a joke is based on race doesn't mean it's racist, there's a fine line between a racist joke and a joke based on race that is merely done out of fun.

Also, there have been occasions where a blatantly jacist joke has made me laugh.

I don't really get offended. I find most humorous things funny, but I cannot stand the following forms of humor:

1. Toilet humor--once in a while is OK, but I'm not one of those people who laughs at "fart lol! cock" humor. Although I have been accursed of being so due to my name 🙂.

Heh, that seems to sum it up. Well, watching humorous videos can be fun but I don't like to see or hear about animals getting hurt. In particular, a guy at my church was with a couple of his friends and they buried a cat up to its neck in the ground. Then they ran it over with a lawnmower. The guy at church said he didn't actually do any of it, but I still lost a great deal of respect for him for even associating with such people.

You choose to be a lawyer, thats the difference. The other obvious difference is the whole history of prejudice and discrimination people face based purely on the color of their skin.

I'm quite surprised its so acceptable in the States.
