I highly disagree. A former teacher of mine is extremely liberal and she literally broke down crying because students told racial jokes in school.

Personally, I have no problem with racial or ethnic jokes. "You only say that because you're white!" Hmm...whenever I have seen black people performing standup comedy, on whom they have preyed? The perceived uptightness of Caucasians. Ever see the movie Undercover Brother? Hilarious movie. Lots of white jokes. I enjoyed it a lot.

There might be exceptions to the rule and your teacher seems to be one. Yeah, I saw Undercover Brother and I laugh at the racist jokes. But of course that's just too much for certain people. Did you see Team America: World Police? The scene where the caucasian male gets plastic surgery to look like a Muslin Terrorist was one of the funniest thing I've laugh at. But of course some people took offense.

Shock, pure and simple. That's the reason for racist jokes, just like South Park sets out to shock it's viewers by constantly pushing the envelope, offensive jokes are meant to do the same thing. People remember shocking jokes, therefore, they're succesfull...

Yes, I would make a Paedophile joke. When it comes to humor, nothing is sacred to me.

Why do people laugh at jokes about the Jews dying? I think it's the shock factor. How often do you expect to hear someone say, "What's the difference between a Jew and a pizza?" and then give the answer. (By the way, that IS a horrible joke, which is why I won't give the punchline.) I mean, when jokes are just for fun, it's OK, I can take a few, but when they are used for malice--we were discussing the above joke being told to a Jewish woman whose parents were survivors of the concentration camps--that's bad.

Racial jokes don't bother me. They never have and never will. Maybe black/Mexican/Asian people feel differently, but you have no idea how often I've heard:

"Hey, how do you keep a Dutch boy busy?"
"Gee, I don't know."
"Tell him there's a penny in the corner of a round room!"

I'm not boo-hooing over that.

So if i came out with the joke about september 11th, and the fact that lot of Americans died - you would laugh and say - ha ha ha!! Lots of people died in spet 11th, how freaking hilarious!

Yeah, that's the main source of the problem. Political Correctness is desease of the 90's. This country was moving away from conservatism and now is coming back. But now even people that aren't conservatist are getting too touchy and delicate about stuff.

I also don't hold nothing sacred when it comes to humor.

I've seen stand ups do jokes about 9/11. One of the arts of being a stand up is being able to go out on an edge carefully without crossing over from offensive but funny to just plain pissing people off. At that point you still can't censor people, but their act will be ruined in a minute if nobody is laughing.

This country was moving away from conservatism and now is coming back.

Not only Republican but also Democrats. There is sucha thing as Conservative Democrats. This country really needs to move away from that old image of 50's dinners and kids sharing a coke together.

i use to work at a comedy club so i've hear evey type of humor and jokes there are...and if i didnt laugh it wasnt because the jokes were racist it was because i didnt find them funny i dont get offended by racist jokes..there jokes...there meant to be funny not racist....some people find different things funny to others...just beacuse one person finds a joke not funny becuase they thinks its racist there's another person who finds that joke to be hillarous because they can see past the racism and find the humour in the joke
