Well ... this is it; my last post before I finally get to see "Indiana Jones IV", probably the most eagerly awaited movie-going experience of my life, tomorrow night. I've re-watched the old films, got the theme tune firmly stuck in my head ... and have, over the past year or so, discussed it on here half to death 😛 ; by this time tomorrow, all the excitement, the anticipation, and the expectation will finally all be over ...
As a certain old knight would probably say, 19 years is a long time to wait; I just hope the wait was worth it.
See you all on the other side 😛 ...
Alright, well I finally saw the fourth Indiana Jones movie and I have to say it was pretty good.
Ford and Shia did an awesome job together, and Karen Allen was pretty good except her character became a bit too risky to be believable. Ray Winstone's did a good job at his part of Mac, even though the character was completely pointless, and John Hurt was kind of annoying as Professor Oxley. Cate Blanchet did a great job at playing the main villain, but she needed to be a bit more evil which brings me to my next point.....
KOTCS definetelly felt the most like Last Crusade, except with less jokes. The action towards the end especially, had more of a cartoonish feeling then say the truck chase in raiders. The action scenes though, were still pretty amazing, if you can get over the fact that a good 50% of it is all CGI..... fantastic CGI that is.
My big problem with the movie is pretty much the plot. Not that its particularly bad... more that it just doesn't feel like it fits an Indy movie. Some scenes just go way over the top, and the fantasy element goes overboard as well. And yeah, I know that the first three all had there moments (melting faces, heart being ripped out, rapid aging) but this one just goes ridiculously past my boundary of belief. Fortunately, this only really happens at the very end of the movie... so its forgivable.
But if you can get over all of the negative elements of the film and go in expecting a slightly cheesy, fun action adventure movie... then you'll come out smiling.

Bad news. I didn't.
Ok, I'm a noob at using spoiler tags. Never used them before because I never had to, so I won't cover much of the details. The movie can basically be split into 2 parts. The intro up until the "finding" of the crystal skull is part 1 and part 2 ends with the Finale obviously.
Part 1:
The intro was good. I enjoyed most of the warehouse running and also enjoyed the talks between Indy/Shia as well as Indy/Broadbent. The chase scene in New Haven was well executed and fun to watch and liked all the other minor details and historic scenery. They really captured the feel and look of the 50's. The first part wasn't perfect however. The dialouge and "way" over the top action was poor. When I say "way" over the top I mean way to extreme for even Indy himself in his own universe. Indy also looked a bit out of shape during a part of the chase in the warehouse. I don't know, to me the way he ran and jumped looked a bit odd. Overall the first part was a pleasure to watch.
7.5/10
I'll do the second part later. I have to go to class.
SPOILERS
I'm not that good at reviewing movies, so I'll keep it short.
I liked it. But Raiders is still the best one.
About the first part I agree with you, General Akbar. Be sure to tell us your view on the second part.
It was too much. Indiana Jones is about the feeling you get when you watch it, the characters, the settings, the story,... Not about how good you can make an atomic explosion, a UFO, a temple getting destructed,... look. TOO MUCH CGI AND OVER THE TOP ACTION. They keep nagging about how old Indy is. Then why put him in the middle of a fricking atomic explosion? Bye bye, realism (okay, Indy's not about realism, but this goes too far). Same with the aliens. Spielberg probably was out of inspiration and just had to drag ET and War Of The Worlds into the movie. A giant spaceship flying up from underneath the temple? Come oooon!!
And Mac was annoying.
Other than the CGI and Mac, I liked it. Just nice to see Indy in a new film. 🙂 Maybe other people will disagree with me, but I think the whole Indy-Marion-Mutt story is quite nice. 🙂 It's good to see them care that much about eachother. Indy finally has a family. But now I'm getting sentimental.
I liked it.
But not THAT much.

Ok, continued below.
Warning, some spoilers:
Part 2:
Part 2 was a real dissapointment for me personally. I could handle the "limited" CGI in the first part, but the second part was full of it. From cringe worthy scenes with Indy and the gang to poor looking CGI monkey's (although the CGI ants were really cool!). The action scenes didn't really spark anything inside me, I watched it the entire time with out any emotion or reaction to even the coolest looking scenes. I suppose the lack of tension and suspense was well criticized by critics and other Indy fans.
The ant scene and the fight with Dovchenko was decent, but not as epic or cool as I would have imagined it. What else...Indy's relationship and on screen chemistry with Marion felt kind of forced at times and the character development with the exception of Jones himself was rather poor. Oxly was a mumbling fool. Mac was confusing as a character, Marion didn't get enough screen time, or didn't have much to do, though this didn't concern me much because her return wasn't something I cared about anyway. The Finale of course the very last thing was a awesome feat of CGI, I'll tell you that much, but I personally didn't care much for it and thought it was a rather weak finish. Even though I like the idea of Aliens. Especially the way they looked!
Those are the most obvious criticisms I can pull out of the flim without spoiling too much, but I don't want to sound like this movie is the absolute worst thing you could see because it is in fact much better than the usual crap that's being made by Hollywood today. I urge you guys to go see it if you haven't already, you might enjoy it. It's at LEAST worth watching once, if not twice.
Part 1 score: 7.5/10
Part 2 score: 4.5/10
Total score: 6/10
Yeah, just saw it again. I am giving it 7.5
-I didn't like the monkey part, it felt like I was watching a part from SW.
-The ending felt like I was watching something from X-files.
-I had to get use to Indy being in the 50s.
-The dialog wasn't the greatest.
-This file is the worst of the 4.
-The rest was great and I like the family part of the movie the most.

I agree with all of what you posted accept the family part. I can't except Indy finally getting married and having a family. Sure it shows how times have changed, but I want Indy to be a same womanizer and free-roaming adventurer that he was in his early years, even though he's older. Not to mention that I almost had a heart attack with the Mutt scene in the church.
I don't think I would have called Indy a womanizer, but it was awkward watching him actually getting married. Thank goodness Mutt didn't put on Indy's hat. But if he has to get married, I'm glad it's to Marion.
Dislikes:
- some of the dialogue at the beginning. Indy's a little more sarcastic and clever than "Drop dead."
- Being in the 50s took some getting used to. I really liked the late 30s feel, but what else could they have done? A non-smoker, in great shape, and clearly immune to bullets, Indy will live to a ripe old age.
- Mac is annoying.
- Mutt swinging with the monkeys...ridiculous.
But it's a good movie. Mutt sword fighting with Cate Blanchett was perfect and the movie is as well-paced as Raiders, just not superior to it. It's right up there with Last Crusade imo.

Spielberg likes him films to have a mushy family-feel about it. It was what ruined AI and alsmot minority Report (taht movie was just too damn good to be ruined by the (short!) mushy happy end)
